Does switching your geyser off save electricity - A simple experiment

We should all use this kind of thing. My flat is 50m^2 to have a frikken huge geyser in there is crazy. This thing:
a) never runs cold, it can pump out hot water all day
b) is available on demand- as mentioned, as much as 30% more efficient
c) probably cheaper to install and maintain
d) less/no damage due to bursting
e) saves space

These things have been available for years, yet they have not become the standard in flats. WHY?

I can assure you the cost for a setup like yours will be 1 third of the price of a geyser.
And as you rightly say: It is aestetically pleasing, consumes less electricity, saves on water and cost less.

The reasons why it did not become the standard.

Up until recently the quality of these units were not very good and it worked on the same basis as a qeyser just smaller. It had an element which heated a small amount of water very rapidly.

the problem with the element is that it gets a calcium build up, which in turn clogs the unit.

The new technology uses a superimposed lightweight heating chamber. The heating efficiency is as much as 99%.

This changes the whole picture as the new units are very safe with a longer lifespan than the old element type.

It is only my opnion on why it has not become the standard and I could be wrong.

That is also true. But instead of taking hours to reheat it will only consume for the duration of the shower. So 2 showers = 30minutes(15*2)@ 7kw compared to 2 showers = 2hours @ 3kw heating. With a million people taking a shower between 20:00 and 22:00 it will give you 3kw * 1 000 000 * 2hours. The load will be less than having it at once but will be for a prolonged period.

And lets be honest, a 1000 of those heaters won't make a difference. Only when the market get swamped will it have an effect.
