Morning all,

I need to build a pc for a friend whose office pc got struck by lightning, we have a 15K budget. Basically I think we are killing a sparrow with a cannon but hey im just building them the pc they want. How would this build look:

Antec 1 (One): http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1273242
Intel Core i7 3770K: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1405247
ASUS P8Z77-M PRO: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1668769
KINGSTON HYPERX BLU 4GB: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1068423 x2
Antec HCP: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1273248
Asus ATI AMD Radeon HD7770: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1674571
OCZ Vertex4: http://www.esquire-shop.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=1274128

I have a 1TB drive from the old pc that I will use as a data store.

I would like to do all my shopping at esquire, not in the mood to drive around or wait for parts.

Any comments?

More like a strategic nuclear strike, but other peoples money etc...

Only thing I'd change is getting a 2TB HDD instead of the 1TB you already have for all those distros that get downloaded on company time :)
Your PSU is also a bit overkill. If you use a one that is too large, you may find that it doesn't run optimally and use more power than a 500w PSU would under the same circumstances. Not a major issue, just thought I'd mention it.

Why an I7? Are you going to do as lot of photo and video rendering? I5 3750 will be just as good. Save R1000 and buy more RAM.

I would get them to assemble and test as it is a long way to drive if the components are faulty.
BTDT.

+1

The Intel 3770k is overkill. If you're are a gamer I'd invest in a more powerful graphics card, otherwise an SSD.

That PC is completely off balance!
-too low end graphics card
-too high end CPU
-not enough RAM
-too big PSU
-quite a big SSD
-motherboard is rather expensive for what you get in terms of features + it is out of stock at Esquire

Remember, the OP said it is an office PC, in which case any graphics card is overkill. But since the company is paying, why not a mid-range card for the odd lunch-time game?

Agreed, but don't we first have to establish what exactly this PC is going to be used for?

- I also think the SSD is too big, just change their library default save locations to the HDD and 128GB should be fine
- Unless they are doing rendering or similar, i7 is definitely overkill and i5 will more than suffice.
- +1 on 8GB RAM

15k for an office pc that is going to do janitorial work. Lower the CPU, the PSU and swap out the HDD for a Seagate Constellation Drive instead of those wimpy desktop drives, or a WD Velociraptor.
