A fraudulent SIM swap was done on my cell phone on Thursday afternoon, resulting in me losing R8000 with cellphone banking. I contacted Vodacom and the case was logged at the Vodacom Fraud department. The reference number given to me is S3-8EO2P-PQD44. I was promised that the fraudulent SIM swap would be reversed within 24 hours. As of now, 10:00 Monday morning, this still has not happened. When I contacted Vodacom customer care this morning to find out when this will happen, I was told they tried to contact me, but could not get hold of me! Duh!!!!! A freakin sim swap was done and I do not have access to my frakin phone! Surely they should know that if a sim swap was done I would not be able to get any calls or SMS notifications from them? I am sooooooooooo damn angry and frustrated at Vodacom at the moment!

Get on hellopeter.com. I had to do that* in order to get a complaint resolved that had been dragging on for weeks. A few hours after posting my grievance, a very capable-sounding chap from Vodacom called and helped me out.

But yes, they do employ morons.

*This was last week.

this, post on hello peter; seems that gets results with the cellphone networks

and yes the do employ morons, they gotta eat as well you know:D

Yes.

I was charged a few years ago for SMS' sent from my data sim, from a dongle, and I requested detailed info, and after a lot of arguing they agreed to send it. Apparently the SMS' were sent by me, from this sim, to MYSELF!

As soon as a sim swop is being processed Vodacom send a SMS to you to notify you about it. They then pend the sim swop for 2 hours on the system to give you time to contact Vodacom in case it is a fraudulent activity. Did you not get the SMS? I would maybe suggest to go into a Vodacom store and just do a sim swop yourself to get you back online, and then claim a credit from Vodacom for the cost of the sim swop?

A safe assumption in SA is that 99% of people are morons. Therefore statistically Vodacom will have quite a few of them.

Its not a "strictly morons only" policy apparently. They had to (BEE or whatever) employ 7 capable people too. Lets hope you make contact with one of the seven.

I did not get any SMS notifications whatsoever! And, I am definitely NOT going to pay for any sim swaps and then claim back from Vodacom. Nor will I be going in to any store to do anything. If an illegal and fraudulent sim swap was done without me being present or getting any notifications, surely it can be rectified without me be there.

I have also posted this on Hellopeter as was suggested.

That's for a legal simswop. This clearly seems like an inside job, not to mention fraudulent - surely they found a way to skip the notification SMS.

I had a look on your cell number and it does seem like it was a internal swop and was not done in a store. I will send this through to IT and see if they can fastrack this, but not sure if they will.

Thanks for the assistance, really appreciated!:)

Damn. At least Vodacom has 1 guy who is the exact opposite of a moron. Great work Ockie!

+1
Ockie has done so much for Vodacom, he should be the poster boy for them!

Well, lets see first if IT will do it for me. I already have the reference number from them from when I sent the request earlier this morning. Now I just have to wait for feedback. They will either do it or tell me to take a hike and follow the correct channels.

Great news. I have checked back on the line now and the sim swop has been reversed as of 14:35:06 today by IT.

Unfortunately it seems as if everything still isn't in place. it is now 21:15 and I still do not have any service. Contacting the Vodacom customer care after hours just managed to raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels.

As far as I remember it takes up to 24 hours for the signal to activate. Might also require a phone restart, some can get "stuck" in no signal mode even once they have signal again.
