SA banks really need to lose the cellphone authentication.
Unfortunately it seems as if everything still isn't in place. it is now 21:15 and I still do not have any service. Contacting the Vodacom customer care after hours just managed to raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels.
I dont understand it. Everything looks good to go on my side. Old sim number is reflecting again on all my screens and I removed the hard lock personally and the line's status is reflecting as active. I will send you a screenshot to show I am not lying.
Try this please. Do a manual network search. When your list of networks comes up, select MTN. IT will fail. Then reboot the phone, do a new search and then select Vodacom.
Everything I have done so far:
Left phone of for an hour, switched on and still "No Service".
Switched phone off, removed sim and left off for an hour, put in sim, switched on and still "No Service".
Manually selected the carrier, first another network, then Vodacom, still "No Service".
Switched off, removed sim, switched on without sim. Switched off again, re-inserted sim, switched on, still "No Service".
Update: Hallelujah! The reboot with the incorrect network selected and then manually selecting Vodacom again did the trick! I bow to your amazingness!
A fraudulent SIM swap was done on my cell phone on Thursday afternoon, resulting in me losing R8000 with cellphone banking. I contacted Vodacom and the case was logged at the Vodacom Fraud department. The reference number given to me is S3-8EO2P-PQD44. I was promised that the fraudulent SIM swap would be reversed within 24 hours. As of now, 10:00 Monday morning, this still has not happened. When I contacted Vodacom customer care this morning to find out when this will happen, I was told they tried to contact me, but could not get hold of me! Duh!!!!! A freakin sim swap was done and I do not have access to my frakin phone! Surely they should know that if a sim swap was done I would not be able to get any calls or SMS notifications from them? I am sooooooooooo damn angry and frustrated at Vodacom at the moment!
Sorry that this happened to you but i am curious.
Are you on contract or prepaid?
How exactly did they steal R8000 from you?
Dont they need your username and password for online banking?
Isnt there a password in place for cellphone banking?
