A rescue operation is underway to save a dog that has fallen down the Big Hole in Kimberley, paramedics said on Friday.

ER24 spokesman Christo Venter said the dog had been in the hole for a couple of days already.

"The dog had been swimming around in an attempt to find a way out and fortunately found a ledge to rest at, which probably saved him thus far."

Venter said rescue technicians had a difficult task in establishing firm ground to start the operation.

"With the 200m drop into the hole, it will take some time for the rescuers to reach the dog."

I'm surprised the dog survived the drop. It must have been a pretty hard landing.

I believe someone's gonna russell down there now and get her...

Poor thing must be terrierfied, we should all paws for a moment and pray for her. This incident will give her a new leash on life.

This is a real bitch of a situation. At least she's coated in suppawt right now. After a few days down there the poor thing's gonna be a little husky in the voice department. I do feel like this is the ANC's fault. The Danes for example would never have allowed this to happen. Nor the Poms...
