If the oil filter is hard to unscrew by hand I use a ratchet strap around it tight, so that I have leverage.
Otherwise I stab it do death with a screwdriver and use that for my leverage

I prefer a strap wrench but I havent used one of those before.

I have a strap oil wrench which I bought to loosen a fitting on the pool pump. It worked like a charm.

They are awesome and normally the cheapest for Shell HX8 so he may as well get oil and filter there.

I also finger coat the new oil filter with my finger dipped in new oil, this just makes the seal wet when putting it on to get a tight seal.
Everyone has been doing this for decades, not sure if it is a myth or what, but I do it anyway

I bought mine at Midas (Johnnys Motor Spares) in Strand. Cheaper than TAL and stronger looking.

If you are running fully synthetic oil you really don’t need to change it every 7500km.

Softly HAND tighten that oil filter if you don’t have a torque wrench. There is absolutely no reason to overtighten it and you’ll have endless kak.

What’s your idea of high mileage?

While you at it, replace the air filter. I just checked mine as I'm off to get oil and filter. No wonder my car performance is kak. I last checked it three months ago and this is from riding past summer veld fires

Warm the engine up slightly before draining the oil. Warm oil drains better.

Take off the oil cap and remove the dipstick before draining the oil. Helps with flow out of the sump.
Double and triple check that the sump plug is in before filling up.
Double and triple check that the old oil filter gasket came off before fitting the new filter.

Most important: jack stands or ramps. Don’t rely on a jack!

Car needs to be at optimum operating temp before oil is drained.
