Can one reclaim their domain back after it has expired? After how long do they have after the expiry date do they have to claim it back if possible? I have someone whose domain expired last week.

Depends on the registry, but in most cases the domain can be renewed within 30 days of expiry

In most cases no, how ever some registrars do send domains to auction...

It's a co.za domain. If he pays will he get it back or they will need to re-register it and pay whatever fees needed to get it back?
He should be able to renew it within 30 days of the registry expiry date.
