I've never donated blood.

I went twice...first time I chickened out at the door and the second time I was in the queue waiting my turn when a guy stood up and fell face first into the floor...so I left hastily :D

Huge phobia for needles...it makes me feel sick to the stomach and I feel like I want to feint.

I am an organ donor though...so I'm not all bad :s

I’ve been receiving calls to come in and donate, problem is I need to be off the herb for a month. I haven’t gotten that far…. funny thing is I always donated at varsity without any issues.

Did you find out why he fell to the ground? Hopefully it's not because of him having had donated blood, otherwise it's going to scare a lot of people.

This is probably why they do all the checks (checking iron & sugar levels, blood pressure) and ask you how you are feeling, have you eaten something, etc... They don't want you passing out and never coming back again or worse, scaring off poor needle phobes like Method :p

I'm actually usually a bit sleep deprived when I go donate, but I always say I'm OK. I do try to hydrate nicely before I go and always make sure I eat something and continue in that vein after the donation :)

It was because of the donation. He was dizzy when he stood after the blood was drained :p

Do you do it? yes?no?

if yes or no,why?

I`m considering it but I`m kinda worried about needles and stuff :erm:
my blood type is B+,dont know if thats good or bad in terms of rarity/donation.

also is there any medical requirements to it?
such as anemia, hiv, blood borne infections etc?

I'm B- so even more rare than yours :( Think I'm second rarest behind AB-.
I donated from school 1997/1998 until around 2014 when some idiot at Centurion blood bank tried to pincushion me.
Look, I'm no small guy and they never struggle to draw blood for tests at the Doc so don't know why that idiot couldn't get anything right.
Every-time I almost pass out when standing up :D I Have to sit for a couple more minutes before trying to more.
Wife found it very funny seeing my knees wobble if I stand up to fast.

I'm on the bone marrow list so that was the last blood I "donated" in 2014.
I have a thing with needles after a Doc tried 15 times to do a lumbar puncture with me when I was small with asthma.
The security had to take my dad out of the ward because he wanted to moer the Doc with my crying every-time he tried.

I might consider donating again if we find out that either of the child units are B-.
He is 3 and she is 7 months so need to go and get them "tested" to find out the blood types first.

Why not start up again? Idiot Centurion guy was probably just that?

I had a lumbar puncture done at age 12. I didn't experience any pain and everyone was extremely surprised since its normally a painful procedure.

Now that is something I'm not doing. Needles near spine...nope.

Rare-ness in this context is rather meaningless:

Necro. But I was finally allowed to donate blood yesterday (for some reason on the day on previous occasions my BP was either too low or high and then once my iron was low). I am B positive. IMG-20201210-WA0014.jpg

I donate regularly.

There is always a shortage. But it seems pretty bad at the moment. They been phoning every 56 days asking for another donation...

The blood center at the Colony in Craighall has fantastic staff, suggest anyone who wants to donate in the north go here.
