Hi Guys

Trying to help out my parents here.

Last night their Huawei E173 dongle still worked 100% as I set it up months ago.

Since this morning it flashes the dark blue light every 3 seconds to show it is registering the mobile network. MDMA also shows it is connected to Vodacom and signal strength is good.

But trying to connect I keep getting an "Unable to connect" error.

When you diagnose the problem it says to move the mobile device to an area with coverage. (See screenshot below).

I have restarted, moved dongle to different port and even re-installed drivers. Nothing working.

Thanks

Could be a temporary problem with just the data signal in the cell they are currently situated in

- would it be possible to plug the dongle directly into a laptop and take it a kilometre or two away in a car to see whether you get coverage then ?

It is unfortunately on their desktop PC.

And I did not bring my laptop along on the visit.

We are about to leave and head back to Pretoria.

Here is hoping that it is just a temporary problem.

These errors usually come and go. It's likely a network issue. You don't mention the error you get.

Just says Connection Failed unable to connect. And then gives you the option for Diagnosing the problem.

Hopefully this will finally convince the old man to install that ADSL line. Can use my ISP details as it allows for 2 concurrent connections.

It should give an error # as well. 7xx range is a modem or port fault. 6xx is a network issue and usually resolves on its own. "Connection Failed" is too generic and literally includes every problem there can be.

Thanks guys.

I'm back in Pretoria now but will ask my parents to double check the error message later and get a screenshot of MDMA if that'll help.
