Don't buy a citroen

Hi mighty All !

Can anyone advice on the alternative Citroen service place in Cape Town ?

I had a C4, got rid of it after 30,000km. Biggest piece of junk known to man, held together with sticky tape and spit.

I had a drive shaft, clutch x2, gear box, brake pads, fly wheel, exhaust system, locking mechanism, cruise control, wiper blades, rear spolier, all faulty and replaced under 20,000km. So glad I got rid of the thing as the clutch was on its way out again.

yeah, **** happens, but at the moment I need to replace brake pads... so... any one with some constructive answer ?

Pop into your nearest MIDAS, get matching Ferodo pads & entice a mate to help you on a Saturday. Beer normally works...

French cars = Fail. Imho.

Don’t be too hard on French cars. Looks aren’t everything. They are not pretty but they are OK (I have seen worse). Once you get past the usual French bloody-mindedness (you push the door buttons down to unlock and up to lock), they are pretty good. I had a good friend who collected Citroens’, I have owned 2 Renaults and we (a kibbutz crowd) tried to break a Peugeot (not ours) over a period of months in the desert. It simply degraded gracefully. The engine just got weaker but it never stopped.

I've had enough of Citroen, I decided to resurrect an old thread than start a new rant.

My dad and I bought a car together because I needed a car and he said he would help me out, and as I needed a car in a hurry my dad said he found a great second-hand car that was very light on fuel, a Citroen C3.

this car is light on fuel, it's VERY economical, but since i've bought it, it began giving me niggly little problems, things fell off easily, which was all fine as the car went. after 3 months the bulbs started blowing and i'd constantly get beeps that the need to be replaced, which i took to a mechanic to do and replace for me as i didn't want to take it apart myself. 2 weeks later they blew again.

then the overheating started. there were oil leaks and the gearbox went so i could only drive in 1st gear. the dealership refused to pick it up, they said i must find a way to get it to them. these things normally happen to cars, so i took it to them to repair. they wanted to charge me R10 000 in damages to the car. Insurance said they would only pay for the gearbox, and I didn't have R7000 to fork out. i took it to another mechanic to seal up the leaks and do a small service for R2000, which was everything i could muster.

while driving on a long road home the warning lights come on telling me that the engine is overheating, the car engine cuts out completely, power steering turns off and i am just lucky enough to turn off the road. i can't believe how stupid and dangerous this feature is. Citroens also don't have a temperature gauge, they give you no clue as to when the car is getting hot, it just tells you "Stop now" which it didn't even give me the liberty of doing.

to cut a long story short(and i can make it MUCH longer), Citroen is charging me to fix R30 000 to fix the "damages" to the car, which is a completely faded away head gasket after 7 months. where am i ever going to get money like that? warranty continues to replace necessary parts as they fail. i took it to another mechanic who doens't specialise in Citroens, but he fixed it up and insurance paid for everything, i didn't have to pay a cent, but after the car has been driving for awhile it is giving me warning lights about the temperature again, despite the fan and heat sensor being replaced, there being enough oil and water in the car, and it seems to hook when i press the accelerator in now. the car has been in the garage more than i've taken long trips with it. i'm seriously pissed off with citroen cars and the **** service i have been getting from the main dealership here

Oh, also - we now have 3 Citroens in the immediate family. Will let you know when they all spontaneously combust. :D

no idea how good the C4 is, but if it's Citroen, nay, FRENCH, it must be crap :/

I've also decided to get a new Citroen C4...

I've had expensive issues with other cars too. Luck of the draw. I wouldn't want to own any modern car with no warranty or extended warranty...

i heard that the citroens were quite good in the past. the saleman also said that the citroen was good, but the minute i went online i've been reading through mountains of problems that people have and how unhappy they are with the service. i hardly see anything negative about the C4 online, but the C3 problems make me want to stop driving the car when i see what is going to become of my beloved car. it's been a pleasure to drive, but onec the problems started i've had this constant fear that i am going to break down, because the car gives you no warning, and when it does it's already too late to do anything.

i am only at 100 000kms and it's been in the garage 7 times already for break downs and 3 times for minor repairs. Citroen wanted to charge me a fortune just to do the reprogramming and wiring of the car, when i took it to a speedy electrician and they charged me R500, and everything is working
