Don't buy a citroen

Luck of the draw.

Ain't that the truth! Two quick anecdotes, one more relevant than the other:

1. An uncle of mine bought, against all advice, a new W124 Merc 200E in the late 80s. Seized the motor on 12,000km.
2. Family friends of ours have a lil' 1.4HDI C3 - the older one. It's well on its way to 300,000km never needing anything more than routine maintenance.

Moral of the story? All manufacturers can (and all do) occasionally build a Friday car. Some just build more of them than others.

maybe i'm just bitter, every time i get given the car back and am told that it's fixed, then i drive it for 600 km and it breaks down again. i hate going to the Citroen dealer, i feels like all they're trying to do is make money out of me every time i get a quote on what needs to be fixed.

and it's insane to think i need to pay R30 000 to fix the car completely, that's a third of the price for which i bought it

I don't doubt in the least that you are quite bitter. I also don't blame you. When you don't know whether your cabbie's gonna make it up the next hill without leaving you stranded and/or costing you a packet, life just doesn't seem worth living. Not to mention the niggling "what ifs" when yours or someone else's well-being might actually depend on your car getting you somewhere without hassle.

Man can experience very few things as frustrating and demoralising as losing faith in his car.

mentioning that, i often get the "airbags malfunction" when the car overheats it's now at the point where i carry spare oil and water around in the car in case i need it, plus accelerating doesn't feel the same any more, so i hardly drive any where.

i'm sure there are worse cars, i should have taken my time looking for a car

I had a similar experience with my previous shape Fiesta. Bought it on 50 000km's. Was fine up to 100 000 km's, then two issues cost me well over R30k... Sold it after that.
