So I made this mistake,
I have a bit of flu that started on Monday, for some reason I have terrible that came with it. Coffin just makes it worse and I can't sleep, so I took some gaviscon sachets, two if them 'cause my heartburn was very bad and I needed some sleep, it worked very well and kept on taking a sachet every time the heartburn became too much.
Yesterday I felt some pain in my stomach like some sort of cramp, not to bad but was not normal?
Last night My heartburn was very bad again during the early mornings and took another two sachet like the other night just to get some sleep in.
At around 4 this morning I was awoken by such a pain never felt, like I was winded, so it hit me like all medicine there must be like a little sheet, so I grabbed the box, found the sheet and in bold Large amounts of intake may cause abdominal distension
This sucks, it is so uncomfortable.

lol, my wife was drinking on average 1 large bottle a week during pregnancy...

Gaviscon is also fairly expensive (for me at least). Don't know how safe/healthy it is, but as a chronic heartburn sufferer I dissolve some bicarbonate of soda which works quickly and effectively.

You should have that looked at. My ex was downing Gaviscon also for his hearburn for a year or two. When he moved back to the UK, they went in with a camera and found that because of reflux he had developed:

Barrett's esophagus is a serious complication of GERD, which stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease. In Barrett's esophagus, normal tissue lining the esophagus -- the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach -- changes to tissue that resembles the lining of the intestine.

Now he needs to be screened every few years to make sure it does not turn cancerous. My sister's boyfriend has a friend who had bad reflux also for years. Developed cancer of the esophagus and is now terminal. Due to this he went and had his reflux checked out and turns out he has some kind of hernia going on, so his stomach pushes through the valve at about 3cm. They need to go in and fix it.

Just my own experience. Was also a chronic heartburn sufferer. Sucked rennies and used bicarb as if it was air. problem with that is those substances changes the ph balance in your stomach and your body responds by just producing more acid. Gaviscon is the best solution for me now as it does not affect your stomach ph to such a great degree and I use less of it.

Should have known, there is probably a reason why gaviscon is relatively expensive (i.e. properly formulated). I used to go through the small bottle in one or two nights when my heartburn was at its worst.

I use adco-mayogel. It is alot cheaper than gaviscon

I have bottle at home and another at work for when I get heartburn. Luckily does not happen often.

My solution to my chronic heartburn is Nexium tablets to prevent heartburn which I take every second day (but you need a prescription) or otherwise the lighter solution is Lancap or Lanzolac tablets everyday. Best solution is to prevent the heartburn.

If I skip a few days and it hits me I down a large amount of gaviscon just to get rid of it and also pop the pills. Gaviscon only works temporary, where the pill make the cause go away.

I was on nexium a few years ago. Brilliant stuff. Works very well.

Edit: ...Crap... or was that prexum I was on. NOOOOO! That is my bloodpressure tabs.

OK. I was on something with a prex or a um.

Where can I get some of this ?
And how much is it ?

Nexium. Brilliant stuff.
But at R600.00 for 28 tablets a bit pricey.

You can also try Altosec, a lot cheaper and also works good.

My dad is on Altosec and also works well for him. Luckily I do not need meds for heartburn anymore. Stopped using anti-acids a while ago. Was diagnose with hashimoto's a while back and since I am on meds for that my heartburn is much less.

Nexium might be quite pricey, but if you finish the entire course.. you shouldn't suffer from heartburn for quite a while.. much more preferable to downing gaviscon every single night.

But has any of you got this uncomfortable pain that I'm experiencing? Is it the Gaviscon? What does this distension mean written on the pamphlet?

May I make a suggestion, even though you guys normally ignore my advice? I agree that antiacids do not actually solve the problem of digestion, heartburn etc. For a natural alternative, get some activated charcoal capsules at Dischem. Not too pricy and it actually absorbs excess acid. they use the stuff to soak up poisons or radioactive material ingested.
My husband swears by it.
Your poo may be darker, but it is essentially harmless.
