The pain can get excruciating.. I normally get really bad lower back pain that radiates outwards towards the kidneys.. normally as a result of GERD.

May I make a suggestion, even though you guys normally ignore my advice? I agree that antiacids do not actually solve the problem of digestion, heartburn etc. For a natural alternative, get some activated charcoal capsules at Dischem. Not too pricy and it actually absorbs excess acid. they use the stuff to soak up poisons or radioactive material ingested.
My husband swears by it.
Your poo may be darker, but it is essentially harmless.
Use the chewable tablets.
I go through about a packet (24) per week and no side effects---yet...

Are you largely overweight or what? I only have ever had heartburn regularly when I was carrying around an extra 10kg.
So I made this mistake,
I have a bit of flu that started on Monday, for some reason I have terrible that came with it. Coffin just makes it worse and I can't sleep, so I took some gaviscon sachets, two if them 'cause my heartburn was very bad and I needed some sleep, it worked very well and kept on taking a sachet every time the heartburn became too much.
Yesterday I felt some pain in my stomach like some sort of cramp, not to bad but was not normal?
Last night My heartburn was very bad again during the early mornings and took another two sachet like the other night just to get some sleep in.
At around 4 this morning I was awoken by such a pain never felt, like I was winded, so it hit me like all medicine there must be like a little sheet, so I grabbed the box, found the sheet and in bold Large amounts of intake may cause abdominal distension
This sucks, it is so uncomfortable.
Where can I get some of this ?
And how much is it ?
Nexium. Brilliant stuff.
But at R600.00 for 28 tablets a bit pricey.
You can also try Altosec, a lot cheaper and also works good.
Get the generic. Takes off a 0 off that figure.
Do you perhaps know what it is called ?
There's another reason as well....
Extended use over some years may cause calcified kidney stones.
The base ingredient in most of these ant-acids is calcium carbonate.
And too much of that in your system makes it's way into other organs.
When it ends up in your kidneys it forms a hard calcium stone that will eventually have to be passed.
And when it decides to pass at 1 am in the morning... you will feel like you are giving birth to a strand of barbed wire.
Trust me... I know this from personal experience.
That kind of worries me...:erm:
Well I have drank about 2lt of water since this morning, the pain in my stomach is better, but a pain in my mid back is really bad, hard to move, like a dagger is lodged in there.

I used to be a chronic heartburn sufferer -like after eating anything I used to get it. Used to live off of concoctions of antacids, nexium, eno's, gaviscon and rennies.
I then changed my diet, quit alcohol and cigarettes and lost some weight in the process. Haven't had heartburn since. Like not even once. Been over a year now and going strong.

If it is a kidney stone.... it will get a LOT worse!![]()
I have a cigar ready for the big day.
Let us know jaco when it starts and how far dilated.
