One can only hope!

Some thief, how do you carry a 46" TV set?

Oh no! Sorry! I feel like crap when they steal my phone! Hope you've got some serious insurance.

Luckily I do have insurance. The only problem I have is that I got the TV for a bargain a couple of months ago. It was a Samsung C series. Cats digital only have the D series available now. Don't know if insurance will replace the C series model with a similar D series. If not I'm screwed.

Apparently they can just drive into a secure complex with a bakkie and completely break open your security gate and door and help themselves to whatever they please without anyone noticing.

I had my 42" bolted down using cable and rawls. And a chain, mind you. Ugly but it works. When I moved out of my house, I removed said security and sure enough, in those days, they came and took it. It was on and they just pulled and cut wires. They never got away. But, my 42" was ducked. I figured it was throw-away time. and ignored it for a while. Turns out just some caps on the PSU need replacing. Bonus.

Then I got talking. One of friends has a solution that will provide him peace of mind when his stuff gets nicked. Step-down transformer from 220 to 110 in line with all equipment that can be manually set to 110. Like check the back of a PC box, its got that red switch. Put everything on 110 and if they grab it, it'll blow the second it gets plugged into 220.

If that will work or not, I do not know, but at least you can console yourself that it might. Unfortunately, voltage switching is becoming a thing of the past these days as most devices do it on their own. It was a novel approach back then though.

That's a good idea Greg. Nothing pisses me off more than the thought some ****er took my kit and sold it for cheap. Some sort of anthrax pack that explodes with the psu would be a bonus.

You talk like American Marines in the movies.

C refers to the TV being a 2009/2010 model. 'Series' are 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. If you have 3D I'd imagine yours was a LA46C750. The replacement would be the LA46D750; D is the 2011 range and will be better.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

That's F'ed up. Can't have anything nowadays. I'm wanting to buy a 32" LG so I'm going to make sure it's secure.

5 series (50Hz) like LA46D550 are now top of range for D LCDs. Everything upward (excluding plasma) is LED.

Can foresee next year's E, or the year after's F, range will be LED top to bottom (with the excption of plasmas & whatever other new technology comes by then).

Its the natural progression of things.

The trend is indicitive that (edge-lit) LEDs are now easier & cheaper to manufacture than CCFLs, but with some growing pains (uneven lighting sometimes encountered with LED panels). I'm sure in time the manufacturing processes will be optimised to eliminate these occurances.

Ultimately LED lighting is a better technology due to its responsiveness (for local dimming application). Over time the granularity of local dimming will increase and filter down to lower end units.

Unless some other technology evolves to eclipse the current ones, I image we may get to a stage where its economically feasible to build panels with a 1:1 ratio of LCD (shutter) and LED (lighting) pixels.

Happened to me last year 2 months after buying my Samsung 40". Took that along with almost everything else, PS3, xbox etc etc.

Insurance will replace it with whatever is current. I wouldn't worry about that. You will generally get back what you had, if not a newer better model.
