....that sinking feeling that you get when your brain knows that a component is buggered beyond repair - but your geek heart KNOWS it can be salvaged?

You then spend 2 hours tinkering around, blowing dust, wiping and smacking the thing, hoping that your fried component will miraculously start working; but it never does.

Sigh - now to find a new display card....

That geek thing is the shiznit! Lovingly tinkered and coaxed my old sempron 2400+ to life over its 7year lifespan. So much so it was more responsive than my bro's Q6600 under 'normal' workload. Sadly had to lay it to rest 2months ago coz the damn painters kicked it over:( miss u buddy:.(

I always see it as opportunity to upgrade or claim warranty. Either way something new is coming.

Thar she blows !!

I had a similar sad experience about 2 months ago. My AMD Socket A Sempron 2400+ system also passed on to silicon heaven. I never tried CPR though as the watermelon-shaped caps around the CPU gave a hint of the systems demise. No POST screen, just blank screen and the wailing BIOS peeps. The flashing electronic clocks around the house also hinted at Eskum's role in melt-down .

Luckily I still have a laptop to work on, and the HDD's and DVD-Writer survived the ordeal. I'm going to build an AMD AM3 based HTPC early next year.
