Hi All

Heres the situation I have a Netgear Router at home and every now and again i get emails from my router notifying me of DOS Attacks. This is the email i get:

NETGEAR *Security Alert* [d7:98:45]

UDP Packet - Source:84.122.91.102,4672 Destination:My IP and, PORT - [DOS]
UDP Packet - Source:84.122.121.145,50011 Destination:My IP and, PORT - [DOS]

Sometimes My ip is the random one I get through my ISP, But when I am on eMule the IP is my actual computers ip address! Like last night I got 28 emails!!

Should I worry and is there anything I can do?? At least my router firewall is working :D

It looks like a grand total of 2 x UDP packets, which is hardly any denial-of-service attack, so I wouldn't worry.

Like said above, hardly a DOS attack. It could just be packets that emule uses for the search function. DC++ makes use of UDP for search ;)

Ok Great :)

This was just one email of the 28 that i got and each had +- 2 different UDP packets.

Thanks for the replies :D

If they send you an email per packet it'll just make it infinitely worse too. :D

Emails and UDP packets have nothing to do with one another. It's not like a transmission packet is like a parcel from the Post Office LOL!

LOL, think he just meant he got an email notification for each "set" of UDP packets that was received.

Yes, he got an email from his router saying that there are dos attacks(UDP packets). But in fact it doesn't seem to be dos attacks at all, but rather emule or other traffic.

I agree it's quite stupid of the router to send emails. If you were experiencing a real dos attack your email box will be flooded and your network will be made a lot slower even if the dos attacks are blocked by the router!

Oh OK now I get it. Sorry! I thought he was just confused. Hell if my router had to send me an email every time it got a funny packet or connect request, I'd have to buy another hard drive to hold my mailbox!

Probably be the same for me, you should be able to adjust the router's sensitvity so it only notifies you of "serious" attacks.
