Why do people care about ranked? MMR bragging rights?

Think it has more to do with that fact that people wanting to play Ranked are serious players, they play to WIN at any cost, whereas normal pubs are filled with average joe playing his favorite techies hero because he feels like it.

I care because I would like to have separate designated spaces. One to mess about, try new things, or simply play a hero because I am in the mood whether he is meta or not; and another to play seriously with known tried and tested approaches.

I'm tired of tryhard ragers in pubs when you try something different and it doesn't work out. Take that garbage to ranked where you can try as hard as you like.

The only reason I would play ranked is because I would be in a team with my own skill and versing my own skill. Im tired of being put with ridiculously low level teammates, smurfs and above my skill enemies.

If we can get SA ranked to work, I would play it.

I searched for a ranked game once and fell asleep waiting for the game. The next day when I woke up I was still searching for a ranked game.

That was the last time I searched for a ranked game.

Oh wait I remember. You're the dude that judged people's ability by their profile level and then complained that he was being pitted against absolute scrubs but still lost against them. Ranked is unlikely to help you there. It uses the same MMR algorithm as unranked.

Ive played a bit of EU ranked, it felt very balanced.

And I said before, I was in a team with mostly low level.

Of course if you are low level you have less experience in this game.

Low level = less experience. Thats why you get points towards your experience trophy after every game. The more you play, the more you will level up. Simple logic.

Trophy level really means nothing at all, it's a zero factor.

I still get put in teams with people that just started playing dota 2, with literally 2 games played, I **** YOU NOT

That is because I'm not really good at dota, even though my trophy level is 65

Just ask Porchrat, he can confirm how good a feeder I am :)

Same algorithm as far as I'm aware. It feels more balanced because the player base is so much larger and thus matches between closer skilled players are easier to match, not because it is ranked. You'll find the EU unranked system has a similar balanced feel to it.

Again, ranked isn't going to solve your issue. Only real difference will be that you'll be able to actually see everybody's MMR.

Six of one half a dozen of another.

For example my solo queue MMR is extremely low because I haven't played solo queue in ages. I'm at something like 1900. Down there people think slippers of agility are a cheaper replacement for brown boots. Regardless of the hero I play I tend to stomp. I once killed 3 late game carries as a Shadow Shaman solo (on EU servers BTW). It was ridiculous. That is what unbalanced feels like. If you're getting stomped at lower levels it might be time to stop blaming your team and start looking at what you can do to improve your performance. I know it is difficult to admit we share the blame for a loss but it is often the truth. Swallow your pride and strengthen your own game.

The inaccuracy of this method of judgement has been explained to you before. The only reasonably accurate measurement of someone's skill level is their MMR, which in SA doesn't work because people play so little ranked that their MMR scores are likely well below their actual skill levels.

Haha i have problems as i haven't been regularly playing dota 2 in the past 2 years.

I am now playing on EU west as i am in Brussels now, just started again and every game i play, is in very high skill level and i am battling to try out newish or heroes that i am not good with.

So either pick a hero i know I am good with or get rekt.
Players tend to be between 4k to 5k mmr. This is unranked.

I never play rank, will do so when i am a lot better :p
When i use to play my party mmr is around 4300 and still shows that.
I never queued solo mmr in SA as getting games was a nightmare.

So every game either carry or offlane as my supporting needs a lot of work :p

Queueing with old friends who play in normal bracket doesn't help as then we get matched in the higher brackets and lose anyway :p

Not to be funny, but how many times does the leveling and trophy system need to be explained to you before you stop using it as an accurate gauge of judging ones skill and experience level?

A friend of mine who also played Twilight, and was an admin for a brief period of time has years of experience but is only level 16 on DotA 2, you're telling me he's got as much skill / experience as somebody who started a month ago? The flaws in that logic aside, have you forgotten that people can / do create second accounts and or have many years experience in war3 days? For the most part the only real changes since then is the meta and map changes, it's not like the old mechanics were completely tossed out and redone either.

It's quite common for people to have thousands of hours in dota and still suck because they don't understand the game properly.

More hours does not mean better.

Personally I would say steam hours mean nothing. Would be cool if steam showed games played instead of hours spent with the client open.

Games played also don't mean much. That's what your "level" shows you.

Not sure I agree, since games played is only one factor of what influences your level, plus you can't say somebody with example 5000 games played total across all accounts, etc has learnt nothing. Although don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not the most accurate either, but is a lot more informative than hours spent with the client open or trophy counts (levels).
