Dota 2

5) Luna's Lucent beam must be maxed out early in the game because her ulti depends on it. Here was my match now with her.

Guy, use builds, it helps a lot.
Yes indeed. I always start with Lucent Beam. It is crucial. I usually go Lucent Beam and the glaive bounce ability to give her a bit more farming ability early on but I only give the glaive bounce 2 levels then I move on to the damage aura but all the while ensuring that whenever I can I level Lucent Beam. (also the ult obviously :p)

Lucent Beam on its own has a massive cast range and a ministun to stop channeling spells which people often forget. It also has a lowish cooldown so it is a great harass spell once you get it to level 2.

Also yes builds are important. Look up some highly rated ones on dotafire or something and practice with bots before trying it out against humans.

Yeah that's why I mentioned luna not leveling lucent beam. Besides ult depending on it, it is just awesome. I do similar to porchrat with a few bounces to help farm, push and sometimes nail someone running away past some creeps, or just to harass them while I take last hits and denies.

I will normally start with the aura, as that extra 14 damage, can get you an early kill on level one, depending on who you lane with. I will upgrade the Lucent Beam second. I will only take an early level in Glaive Bounce if the lane is tough and it is difficult to farm, otherwise you end up pushing the lane to much.

But I agree with Rickster, it is best to use builds, as it helps you to play a hero about 80% optimal.

I don't believe Luna not leveling Lucent Beam would have really have made much of a difference to be honest. You simply didn't have the heroes capable of dealing with the picks your opponents made. You needed disables and lots of them to prevent their extremely mobile team from escaping. Either that or you needed to be just as mobile.

A tidehunter or Ogre or maybe a Jakiro would perhaps have helped.

Luna is exceptionally squishy early on. I find if you try to go for the early kill like that you're more often than not going to get squished (Viper for example is going to smash). However you can chase your opponent out of a lane from perfect safety with the crazy range of the Lucent Beam at lvl2 (it takes maybe 3 hits to about kill Viper at that point).

I agree with you, and therefore I would not just be reckless and try and get a level 1 kill, it will all depend on who you have as lane support, do you have a stun in the lane, who are you laning against? I personally would not play Luna mid, yes she can, but I would have rather used Viper. That said, you still have a problem with having 4 agi heroes that needs farm, who is farming and who is supporting? You need to have 2 supports, the babysit you through the early phase of the game, plus supports normally have good AOE damage, like a Jakiro or Crystal Maiden.

I personally love Jakiro and I don't understand why he isn't played more often. He is a support with a disable, a slow, an ult that synergises well with most carries to do massive damage, he melts towers and burns through Templar Assassin's shield.

Crystal Maiden could have helped too I agree. Her aura helps almost every hero they have on that team and she can disable and teamfight like a beast.

I do tend to run Luna mid though. Get the Lucent Beam to lvl4 and rush to that ult then simply walk into lane either top or bot, switch on ult and you have a double kill.

Glaive early pushes the lane noob. That's how you ruin your farm.

Meh I don't find it pushes the lane all that hard as long as you don't max it. Stop at lvl 1 or 2 and then move on to the damage aura. I would go for the damage aura in a top or bottom lane but mid lane grab the gold quick and go stomp someone with the ult.

The glaives early also make early jungling a breeze.

Hehe, was about to say that. The damage boost passive is a lot better utilized early in the game, doesn't scale well later( % > numbers ).

Although he might have a point if luna is mid. Glaives let you push the lane so you can check rune.

People play luna mid O.o?
Yea I'm talking about laning her mid. I wouldn't build the glaives in a top or bottom lane, the aura helps too early on with additional heroes.

She is fun mid in pub games, get levels up and a shadow blade and you just mulch the enemy.

What does telkom have to do with this? It's the weak mweb servers.

Might as well blame the government while we are at it.

Ended up watching it on Twitch. It just kept feeding me errors like "SourceTV disconnect". Servers overloaded. I hope it clears up but somehow I imagine this next game is going to be even worse.

Well...****. Navi are out, for the first time.
