Dota 2

I really wanted EG to win, they made really stupid mistakes. but the best team win hey.

PS did you see the Secret vs IG game with secret techies? my goodness the was awesome

Is there a youtube video of the match? Twitch doesn't play well at work.

I had a drow once that bought 4 sets of boots... for more speed.

The other day I got paired up with a dude playing his second game ever.

and some people still claim MMR isn't broken. :p

My personal opinion use to be that MMR is broken, so I decided to do a little test this weekend by opening a new account to see how things pan out.

In my first game the players I played with had between 590 and 3888 games played, which is crazy if you think about it? Oddly enough this was a Normal Skills match.

Anyways, I managed to play 9 games in total, 7 of which under Normal Skill. In all these matches the lowest number of games played for a player was around 300, keeping in mind not everyone is on DotaBuff.

60% of time it felt like I was playing with people that are on my level, 20% it felt like I was being outplayed, the other 20% was just horrible players.

When looking back at my main account, I obviously started off as a newbee, played a few games in Normal Skill here and there, but for the most part it was in the beginners bracket. It took roughly 500 games for me to be moved into almost permanent Normal Skill bracket, where I've been now for another 600 matches.

I for one think that people in parties are the ones messing up the Match Making experience, as that just throws everything out the window.

It's still early days, but plan on playing 50 games in total to see where I end up, but for now it seems that MMR is working, unless in parties, then it just ****s out completely.

My problem is that i haven't played dota 2 in ages so every now and again, i play a solo game and slaughtered as i am still in the very high bracket :( Surely it should drop if you haven't played in a hell of a long time.

As per my dota buff you can see now that i hardly play and when i do it's a slaughter- http://www.dotabuff.com/players/131835887

Guessing i should try start playing with people :P, i use to be a half decent carry lol

All I do now is watch competitive Dota

It's going to take a very long time for you to drop out of that skill bracket as you pretty much started out on Very High Skill, just keep on playing badly, you'll get there eventually :D

hahaha well there is no fun playing when you are getting slaughtered every game :P
Not keen to create a new account.

Well i've waited like a year and no matter what i do It puts me in very high lol

I liked having a 58 - 59% winrate but that dropping fast :P

The other day I had a new mate starting out on basically his first ever game of dota. My mates and I made smurf accounts so we could play with him in his first game ever without him playing against the sorts of people we usually get matched against (4000 odd hours etc.). So we were a 5 stack. In that game (the first game ever for each account) we got matched against a team in which the minimum number of hours on the team was about 700 or so and 2 of their players had well over 1000 hours.

Their pudge was good. Easily a High Skill bracket player. If a few of us hadn't been smurfing and were genuinely new players we would 100% certain have been stomped hard. That can't be good for a new player. Why come back to play again and again if you're just going to get plastered by players with several orders of magnitude more hours in the game than you?

That's pretty rough, don't think anyone knows how MMR works tbh, plus it probably depends at which time of day you playing as SA only has that many dota 2 players?

Interesting statistic here:

Yea we have one. Not the most active group in the world but it exists :p. Met quite a few lekker MyBB folks through it. Giff steam name and I will add you when I get a chance.

Will PM you quick.

Early morning dota is the worst. Seems like you only get paired with idjits. I now leave my gaming till past 10 in the mornings. Before 10 I catch up with the games I missed the previous day. Works out better for my health.

Here is another useful dota 2 server statistics site

https://rjackson.me/tools/mmstats/

There is currently 72 people searching for games on the SA dota 2 server :D

We peak at around 280

Think I'm starting to understand why MMR in SA is all over the place, we need more players :p

From all the servers listed, SA has the smallest amount of avg players, even less than dubai haha
