Guys I would like some assistance in getting my DotA up and running.

I can connect to Battle.net. Think the server I connecting to is Ravengrounds.

I am however unable to play anygames. Me and a couple of friends wanna play DotA over the internet, till date we have been using some VPN software but it is not working all that well.

Was hoping someone can tell me exactly how to setup and connect to any hosted servers in SA.

Thanks

We are using Leaf Networks software . This basically creates a connection between me and my friend.

We would like to play against other people , so I dont think this Leaf Software will work for that. We can play against one another using this software.

Surely there is a way that we can connect to central servers and play ?

I am on a WIFI Link and friend is on ADSL . We dont have public IP's for hosting :( .

Why you using the VPN at all?

When we are both connected to Ravengrounds , I can see his game but cannot join.

He cant even see my game .

If you are running a firewall make sure you have the correct ports open, inbound and outbound. 6118 or something if im correct? His ports are prob blocked hence u cant join.
Dont like the fact you are using a VPN though, that may be screwing with your routing or something. Only use the VPN if u want to play 1v1 against each other using the local lan option, if you want to connect to battlenet, log off the VPN.

Ye when we do 1vs1 we use vpn.

But we wanted to try Battle.net option, and had some issues. we wheren't connected with vpn when we tried battle.net .

Will Ravengrounds cause problems or do we need to connect to official Battle.net ?

Do we need to get any ISP involved to open ports ? or would it be sufficient to open them on our routers and windows firewalls ?

Yeah, you won't be able to host, but your friend with adsl can. What is his link speed? I've seen guys with a 384 connection, that host, lag like hell.

He needs to forward ports 6112-6118 on his router. Then he can create a game on bnet and you and other people should be able to join.

you could also try using hamachi or garena - they make your game think you are on a lan when you are actually connecting over the internet.

Guys ,

Where do I get the WC3 Utility downlaod.
I am battling to connect and download the stuff from above mentioned link.

He just wants to play online a far as I can see, he was using the VPN to play vs one guy.

The Twilight server is all he needs. No South Africans play on the international server.

I have tried Leaf and Hamachi for private play.

Will try and gief Garena a go , but for the above mentioned they dont work all that well.

Ok , i am trying to download fro you link , seems unresponsive.

What details do I need to put into GWEditor to connect to Twilight ?
