Do you need to have the frozen throne expansion to play dota? or just the normal warcraft 3?
 
As in originals? I'm sure you can.
As in illegal copies? Definitely.
But Dota's worth the effort.

Do you need legal copies to play online? I cant find frozen throne anywhere. CNA has warcraft 3 for R80 but no expansion
 
You don't need the legal copy.
The South African battle.net server is illegal anyway.
 
my friend bought both at Budget Technologies at North Gate cause he wanted to play online
 
can anyone explain how to get on the lacal server

yeah plz explain how to get onto a local server for a N00B :) lol, also what kinda of bandwidth does dota use an hour approximately? Thanks guyz hope to be pawned by you all soon ;-)
 
OK i will explain. Go to ur warcaft3 directory. Then find a file called gateway editor.exe .Open it and click on the warcraft 3 tab below. Add a new gateway: name: war3 (or whatever), ip: war3.co.za , zone:2 . Then set it to your chosen gateway.

Ok next in your directory there is a file called w3l.exe (warcraft 3 loader). Open that, click on battle.net, create free account and go. Download latest dota map from www.getdota.com and put it in your warcraft 3/maps/download directory.

And pls pls pls if you have 512mb ADSL or above PLS forward port 6112 and then U CAN HOST which few people can.

O it uses like 4mb an hour of bandwidth. And keep your MyADSL nick so we can see who we are pwning........

No, Alex. Problem.

Gateway Editor.exe has to be downloaded, that doesnt come with the game.

And you have to download that w3l.exe : http://pvpgn-files.ath.cx/files/Warcraft_III_Roc_&_FT_PvPGN_Loader_v1.2_by_Acid!.rar

Once you download that you can follow 4nt1's instructions. but put it in the game directory, actually it doesnt have to for there, but its a nice place anyway :)

And its not Zone where you put war3.co.za, its called IP.

Well whatever i just tried to remember, didn't actually do an in depth set up experiment. Why did you go check?
 
lol.. no I just remember having to download this stuff before, because it doesn't come with most Warcraft installs, even cracked ones.

And I just remembered the IP part....

I did have to use my protractor though for some of the more complex angle calculations..

I dont think I have any of those things on the list.. yep. I dont. Well I love dota anyway :D :p :) ^^ 0_0 oh wait..
 
Yep, dont you remember we didn't even try play DOTA for about 3 months because of those kinds... now we get to swear back at teh n00bz0rz.. the vicious cycle goes on..
