word of advice, download the ai+ map and you can practice and have the computer to play along with as bots.

I love Warcraft III, been playing it for years and have played tons of maps multiplayer, but I think I'm the only one in the world who thinks DOTA sucks balls

.I know how to play it, but I just don't get what the appeal is. For something thats so widely played (and loved), I don't think it's that fun.

Weird.

well, when you start going on a rampage and getting multi-kills left right and centre, owning the other team, you feel sort of, well, awesome.

the most fun is at lans. if you are below average level, it sucks to just get killed over and over - it's when you own, where you get addicted.

I don't "own", but I'm addicted. maybe it's the fast-pace, think on your feet feel about it.

The whiny fanbois make for a poor game experience tho.

I only get AI+ maps thats very OLD and that is like S000 buggy... you know sites where I can get the latest ones??

Ignore the bad mouths on there. Ive spent a while playing on war3 server. Love the game. The squelch command comes useful if you want to block out players. I have to admit... after a couple of months playing on the war3 server my tolerance for people who insult me has increased dramatically).

The game is loads of fun but learn to play with the AI and how to keep your lane. Also look online for DoTA build guides to get an idea of what items work best with what characters.

If you're a new player and you want to become decent, all you need to do is memorise which items to get with which hero, and which heroes have which abilities. Then learn map control(keep an eye on the minimap) and how to last hit/deny.
If you're a decent player and want to become great, watch replays. It's that simple

Yea Dota is a great game, just too bad its plagued by rude and immature players on the local servers, but I still play the odd game every week.

I tried dota at my friends house yestereday, he was also new to it.

I need someone to please explain to me, why is this thing so popular? I just don't get it, to me it's the same thing over and over and over again, and then you do it some more.

Not sure if we're playing it wrong or something but it seems pretty boring to me. :)

I think you have to first get to know how to play the game before it becomes addictive, if you just don't know what to do I can see that it would seem pointless. Also you have to play it online, if you just lan it then you missing a great part of the game.

u were playing AGAINST each other right???
i guess it takes a while, it becomes quite addictive when there are quite a few ppl in the game. But hey, its not for everyone...

Dota may be one map but every single time it is completely different. Its such a tactical game when you play with good players; clan games being the most fun.

Just get into it but remember to play with friends. Statistics have shown that 93% of Dota players are punk kids and 92.9% of those kids are @$$-holes; the remaing 0.1% having too low an IQ to use a keyboard. Good luck :P
