Double Cable Break in Western Cape [resolved]

Apparently Cell C haven't fixed it this morning. I'm still getting disconnected almost every minute.
It happened a few weeks ago as well.
It's disappointing that such a promising product could gather so much mess so soon.

I think the frequent disconnects are a different issue to the slow speeds. I had dismal speeds on Sunday/Monday and they got better Tuesday morning. Sadly Tuesday after lunch the connection started dropping very frequently and hasn't managed to be stable for more than 30 mins since then :(

I'm in the Muizenberg area. Over the last few hours the connection has been a bit more stable, but still when it disconnects it takes numerous tries to get a connection again.

Also in the Muizenberg area and frequent disconnections. I'm surprised i could post this message. Had a cell-c tech here. Dont think he knew what the problem was.

Nothing in Claremont. Still. This is beyond a joke. And does anyone EVER answer 084140 or respond to an SMS? I hope the Consumer Protection Act shuts this bunch down.

You'll have to complain to the right government agency (if it even exists in earnest) before any punitive action can happen. Lots of people would have to complain, really.

I think not enough people actually complain to consumer agencies in ZA. We complain to each other but that doesn't actually DO anything.

(This is posted from a VodaCom sim in the CellC black usb stick -- CellC still not working for me)

And does anyone EVER answer 084140...
Nope. I held the line for a full 10 minutes yesterday before giving up. I'm beginning to wish I wasn't using CellC. Vodacom were more expensive but everything worked.

I held on for 39 minutes two days ago without speaking to anyone. And last night I tried three times, with an average wait of around 15 minutes each with no luck. At least I had Trevor to keep me company.

CellC connectivity issues at tygervalley

Hi there, ok, I've done my own investigation, and I can confidently say
that there is a problem with the CellC network in the tygervalley are ONLY during the night. I've got three 5 gig cards, and I've tried them in two different MIFI GSM routers, and I get the same results. As mentioned before, this ONLY happens during the evening. During the day, morning till about 6PM, the connection almost never drops, or gives problems. After 6PM I battle to get a connection. Using my router's menu systems, I request a connection, and I can see that it tries to connect, but reverts back to disconnected. Every now and then I DO get a conection, but it doesnt last very long before it disconnects again. Sometimes it shows that a conection has been made, but I cannot surf. My feeling is that there is quite alot of people at night using their CELLC connection in the tygervalley / durbanville area, and that degrades the quality of the connection. I wonder how CellC is going to handle this? I've made a huge investment buying 3 cards, for I don't have telkom.

Anybody else experiencing the above symptoms? This problem started appearing in the last two weeks. Before it was flying without any issue. In the past I could leave it on over the whole weekend, and it won't even drop a connection, not once. I'm really concerned.

Martin

Sigh i'm having the same issue ... over the last 2 weeks speeds have been gr8 but suddenly back to the usual crap, slow speeds
and constant disconnections also in the tygervalley / durbanville area during office hours after a while i just throw the stupid
thing back in my drawer n try something else! Cell C really letting the ball drop here!!!!

OK, so its atleast 48 hrs after Cell C said their "WOOSH" would be fixed and mmmm nothing. Not even an update from them, thats the least they could do. As 'proze' said I feel as though I should have stayed with the more costly but ALOT more reliable Vodacom. Look at the stupid results below. The first time I tried the test it wouldn't even work. Cell C "C must mean Crap"

Where is Trevor now. HA HA What a joke. Wake me up when we can do something on the net faster than dialup speeds.

O I nearly forgot. Why is it just the Western Cape that has a problem??? mmm Doesn't make sense!! Cable, are we that special?

Lost My Ping, Speed and stablity

My Ping ranges from 100 - 178 +, where before (last week) it was 69 or 89 at the worst.

Cell C please fix Cape Town, why are our pings so bad, and uploads speeds?

last week i was hitting 10mb/s down and 1mb/s up. My Rssi was -51dbm but is now -53 or -55 at the best, signal strength is great, but i need my speed back and Ping!

is there any hope?

Here is mine is lower Tamboerskloof, where I'm supposed to be in the high speed zone according to the coverage map. It sux

As mentioned on other posts, one must ask the question: "Why do I get this information from a Cell C representative on this website?" I have been experiencing disconnect and reception problems from the first day of trying to connect to the internet. Despite complaints and requests to the staff at the outlet I bought the speedstick from, no one ever admitted shortcomings or mentioned that there was a cable break in the Western Cape. From my experience there has been no improvement and the connectivity since the evening of 15/02/2011 is still non existent in my area. Cell C have been fraudulent in their advertising and I feel they should be taken to the Advertising Board. As there are probably thousands of purchasers who paid up front for a system that obviously has severe shortcomings, Cell C should do take the honourable step of reimbursing those who have had zero success with their product. Fortunately I have not cancelled my Telkom ADSL connection and this has made it possible for me to post this message. Hopefully I will get some response now.

Maybe your 5gig speedsticks are better than my 2gig one and your residential area has better reception than mine. Fact is it doesn't matter what time of the day or night it is, I have zero reception. This to me, and I am certain hundreds (maybe thousands) of other suckers that bought into Cell C Whoooosh, is totally unacceptable and they need to compensate us for this lack of access for which we have paid. We paid upfront for something that didn't produce what was reasonable to expect from their advertising. Lets not stop badgering them until we get what we rightfully deserve - a permanent, perfect and fast internet connection within 48 hours or our money back!!

To say we are experiencing slower speeds in Cape Town is an gross understatement. My modem has cut out every minute throughout the last 24 hours, then it alternates between whoosh and then edge, then nothing. I have to agree with the many other W/Cape subscribers that this product has seriously disappointed us. Up to two weeks ago everything was working well, with intermittent signal drops every second day, which were acceptable. Now it's untenable. I can't upload any file over 200kb without losing the signal. I run an IT firm and can't rely on Cell C to do business any more.

Cell C, you have a major tower or software glitch that needs to be addressed urgently. All the promises of Wooooosh and high speed internet are falling by the wayside faster than political party electioneering promises. Come 1 April, and this has not been sorted out, I'm going to exercise my right to a full refund under the new Consumer Protection Act, and encourage others to do so as well!

In any other country, this would be considered fraud!

I feel I have bought a lemon.

I totally agree they sold us lemons without the juice. Yes it is as bad as that!! How must one go about claiming the refund in terms of the new Consumer Protection Act?

I haven't been disconnected all day, but this is surely not good enough:
