Does anyone have experience with Double DIN android devices?

Could work well with a 3G connection and Google Now.

Thinking about it. They're not that expensive. But being android, it could be really ****ty, and unsupported by some huge mass produce facility.

Windows CE as am alternative is outdated.

Yeh, familiar with them, they're actually cheaper than importing the same unit myself.

The android units are also on XDA (rooted) - which opens quite a few possibilities.

I read on one of the other forums when using them you have to pay customs yourself and they dont have very good after sales service, so just check that before using them.

Sorry should have stated, I was looking for something that blended on with the current look of the car. Not keen on aftermarket looking units. E46 in my case. But I myself have not committed to anything. Value just isn't there for me.

So if your vehicle is still under factory warranty will fitting these kind radios replacements void it ?

OP what car are you planning the upgrade on?

Android gets preference of proprietary systems.

I'd imagine you'd void the warranty if you cut wires - if you have a harness made, I don't see how it should.

A Suzuki jimny

Still want to do this with my 86. Apparently the nexus 7 fits very nicely in a bracket that you can find on eBay, that makes it double din. The problem is that you then also need an amplifier.

I installed an after market headrest monitor set and a rearview mirror GPS/reversecam thingy, the installers blew my computer box so be careful when splicing into wiring.

Use an approved installer, maybe ask Suzuki who they approve, approach them and find out what they charge for installation of an aftermarket unit and if they will keep your warranty. I did this this and it saved me from voiding my warranty.

I don't want any cutting of wires. Google the car make for an ISO adapter.

But yes, I'll still make sure to use an approved installer.

+1 these units usually come with the required adapters to connect directly to your cars harness.

Except they don't have one for Suzuki's... But I see there's an adapter on ebay. Will wait for the vehicle to see if it looks right.

How much that cost btw?
I chatted to Tommy from Avin. He said they currently are working on a 8" CD'less, buttonless unit. Will still work with OEM style frames so hopefully wont look too out of place. That would work much better for me. I hardly ever touch the device, steering wheel buttons do 90% of the work, the rest can be done via touchscreen.
