Double strike for telecom freedom

Good article. Well written.
When it comes down to "What to do with Ivy", I can think of a few more options!

Matsepe-Casaburri has been shambling about for too long at great cost to the country. President Kgalema Motlanthe should either read her the riot act or sack her.

Bravo!

Great article! And it made my Friday better!

Now I only need to win something :p

omg ivy, you still here, you should really be baking dagga cookies for your anc and telkom cronies :D and leave communications to the pros, altech im waiting to do business, T1 and above please oh yes and uncapped, thanks doll;)

tsk tsk @ "poor" ivy , well actually the faster she leaves the better

Im a happy man. 2 fridays in a row now we have had some good news. Long may the trend continue

Finally! Ivy's poison was a bit too strong for herself! haha

Just a pity she needs 3 court cases to tell her how to do her job. Cant understand how someone can be so deep in her own little world that she cant see where she is. And all those round her too scared to tell her where she is...

She obviously not anywhere close to SA...

Does anyone truly believe Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri is that unbelievably stupid. She's done an amazing job of successfully slowing down liberalisation so I don't think she's stupid, but rather has been receiving "bonuses" for causing the slowdowns that benefit Telkom / government shares.

Liberalisation has come about despite those policies.

It's more like liberalisation had to take those policies to court to make any progress in the sector. Wonderful times when that happens but still good news and will hopefully help once the new cables land.

That in turn raises a bigger question: do we need a department of telecommunications at all? There will always be a need for policy formulation, of course, but this function could easily be exercised by a division within the department of trade & industry. The reality is that, under Matsepe-Casaburri’s stumbling leadership, government has failed to keep up with change in a dynamic sector. Its policies failed abysmally to bring down the cost of doing business. Liberalisation has come about despite those policies.

I don't really think that we do. The playing field should be wide open and govt should only step in when there are issues/disputes...

It would really be a great end to the year if the current president did decide to sack Poison Ivy - as well as sack Stalin-Mafole at the same time, and let's not forget about the other narcolpetic incompetent - Paris Mashile - that also needs the sack, then we might soon see the tangled web of corruption unravelling, and those A & B shareholders that hide behind broker proxies might soon be revealed as well.
