I would suggest you remove your number from your post, only include the first 6 digits i.e. 011 704 xxxx

Pathetic line speeds for me as well. 011 465 xxx, also on the exchange on corner of Westway and Leslie. It has been like this for over a year now.
Sometimes during the day it is ok, but in the evenings and weekends it is unusable, slower than dial up. Currently it is crawling. I can't post a speedtest result as the speedtest will not even complete.

Do get some slowness when accessing MyBB, but might be DNS issue (using OpenDNS to limit sites for family).

I also live in Douglasdale and my 4Mb ADSL line was perfect, until the 16th of May 2013, when I reported my line for dropping excessive amount of packets. A technician came out and said that they need to replace a card on the exchange, as my port is faulty. That's the last I heard from them. I have been paying my accounts, in the hopes of them fixing it, but nothing. I have freaked out on them, tweeted, commented on Facebook, but they just don't care. I am responsible for our IT infrastructure at my work and I have a budget of 1.2 million rand a month to spend on broadband, guess how much of that will be going to Telkom? It has now been 8 months that I have paid and no service. Honestly, I cannot believe how badly Telkom is managed. I have people working for me, that are not managers, and they will never be managers, but they will run a more efficient ship than Telkom ever will. In fact, I have seen monkeys working for the Moscow circus, that will do a better job than Telkom does.

Any improvement?

I ordered a line over the weekend & also in Douglasdale.

Line down since 03/02/2014.
Apparently it's an exchange issue and affecting a number of people.

Just a +1 from me, also in Douglasdale, number starts with 011 462. Can confirm my speeds are terrible, and have been gradually getting worse and worse over the last good while. I am not using Telkom as ISP, but Afrihost. As well as Mweb, WebAfrica and for a while even axxess.

It does not matter which ISP I use. I doesn't matter whether I go capped, uncapped, unshaped, 'business' ADSL or whatever, nothing makes a difference. Only thing that seems to make a difference is the time of day, which leads me to suspect that DSLAM congestion is the culprit here.

What can we do about it?

Well this sucks balls because I'm waiting for my line to be activated here in Douglsdale.

Can anybody here report on the speeds living in Inyati Sands?

Also living in Inyati Sands. We had problems with Telkom from day one. First they only put in a VOICE line and when we said like what the hell we needed an DSL line, we did not hear anything back from them. We then followed up with them after a few days and they then said sorry they don't have the "equipment" available anymore.

Still waiting for someone to follow up for us but with no sock at all, we have not heard back from them.

Have you had any luck with your line to be activated here in Inyati?

Gamers luck!!!

I'm having serious connectivity issues in Douglasdale, is anyone having the same?

During office hours, and graveyard hours everything is 100%. As soon as we near peak residential hours the speeds and consistency steadily get worse to such a severe point that browsing single pages because unbearable. Quite a few of the results below may suggest somewhat adequate speeds it really doesn't provide insight into the unreliability. For instance one of the tests I did took over 5 minutes to complete. It would just feel like the line "goes down" for a minute or two at a time.

I've tried various ISPs to try and narrow down the issue - heavily regretting some of the ISPs I chose for the test, but that's another matter - and have found it to be consistent amongst them all.

This makes any attempt at browsing or playing games frustrating at best.

Exchange: 011 462 XXXX
ISP: Afrihost Capped (but tried Axxess, Mweb as well)
Speed: 4 Mbps (exchange does not support 10Mbps)

hi have about the same speedtest results around the same times(also Douglasdale area i have test 4 different service providers.all fubar definitely congestion and telkom will need to fix.i am on a 2mb connection but exchange is compatible with 40mg vadsl scared to ungrade incase same speed issues and paying more for something that does not work.

What I suspected... :(

I am trying to expedite my fault I've logged with them to at least get a sense about whether I should be investigating other options. Will post progress.

The call centre agent confirmed there appeared to be congestion on the exchange. He couldn't say more than that except that I should have a response to the fault I logged this week still.

They eventually phoned back and said they couldn't do it. Less pain just to get more 3G :/

I'll give that a try, couldn't hurt I guess?

No real progress update, just lots of SMS's... Received

Dear Customer, This is a progress update from Telkom SA. Fault XXXXXXX for Service ID 011462XXXX. Your fault is in hand with our technical repair division. Please do not reply to this SMS. Telkom

... and have been receiving this daily SMS since Friday:

Dear Customer, Telkom with attend to your faulty services shortly. You'll receive an out of order rebate for the downtime. Please do not reply to this message.

It's become ever so slightly less unbearable the past few days, probably with many people beginning to go on holiday and the congestion easing up a bit.

And now that everyone is back home, speeds are awful again.

Managed to chat to a technician at the exchange, and he confirmed there is congestion for certain. The only remedy at this point is to wait for the upgrades team to come through, but that will be months.

I've given up hope this will be sorted. Good thing I'm planning to move in the next few months. Am considering my options for a short-term alternative.

I am having exceptionally bad speeds too. The problem is that the exchange is overloaded. A technician was here last week to fix my line and explained that I'm connected to Douglasdale-2, which is firstly completely full, and secondly BEING SHARED WITH ANOTHER AREA!!! We should make as much noise as possible about this. :(

I have a 4 meg line using Afrihost Unshaped for data and my speed tests usually yield 0.5 megs. Phone Number: 011462****
