For the past 3 - 4 months I have been enjoying *reasonable* service from MTN in the Hartebeespoort area -- sometimes even 3G, but mostly EDGE or GPRS. During the past week all that changed. For the most part I am unable to even connect.

Let's elimnate some obvious excuses/reasons: I am using two different handsets. I am using two different computers, in different areas of my house. I am using two different accounts and SIM cards.

The resulats are consistent. It dials, gets to "Registering your computer on the network", hangs and then dies, with a "PPP link control protocol was terminated" on the computer, and a "Connection Failed" on the handset.

Any ideas? MTN? Are you listening? Hello?....sorry.....Yello?

Hi There

Pls PM me the numbers you are trying to connect with.

Thanks

Coverage

Turn on cell broadcast channel 900 and let me have both the Cell ID as well as the Cell numbers you are using and I'll look into both coverage and configuration.

But could the MTN represtatives give a general response the the original question? Why would there be a "PPP link control protocol was terminated" error message, if it was working before?

Now I get: TCP/IP Error 718....the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner...

grrrrrrrrr....

And yes, I have called 1555 for support. Mandla. Very nice chap. We tried all sorts of things, including but not limited to the tried and trusty reboot of my PC. We conclusively determined that it is an MTN problem. Eventually he gave up, promising to call me back when he has an answer.

Still waiting....
