Ok... Has anyone on the list successfully downgraded from 4.0 ... I have been trying all morning but with no luck
I have made changes to the host file to look for my info on cydia..... I have 3.1.2 original firmware .... I right click on itunes and say restore ... after a 10 min i get the 1015 error .... so I restore again and point it to 3.1.2 .... 5 min later the 1015 error .... I then use redsnow .... it picks the phone up ... i choose what I want and I start .... then I wait .... 2o min later nothing has happened... i cancel and just put back 4.0 .....

any advice on this for me?

ok...got it right...
this is what you do........

if you have your info saved on cydia ....

point your host file to look at cydia server when getting the 3.1.2 info.... (i assume you know how to do this)

then close itunes and open it again .... connect your phone and put it in DFU mode , shift click on restore and select the file ......

after it is done you going to get a 1015 error .... thats fine

then use a program called recboot to get it out of boot mode .... and there you are.... now JB and you as good as new again

Anybody have any success yet? Cydia info apparently only needed if you have a 3GS. I unsuccessfully tried to downgrade my 3G. Got stuck with recboot to kick out of recovery mode. Dunno how to install libusb, but this was at 01:00 in the morning after working a 12 hour shift...so I'll give it another bash during the week.

I got stuck at the same point. After the phone is rebooted for the last time in the restore, it does not come out of DFU mode, and I could not get get recboot or libusb to work.

Has anyone got the down grade right? I am hating my iphone 3G since the ugrade to OS4! It's slow and the battery life is terrible!

I am even keen to look into a full jailbreak of the phone and going the cydia route, whatever that means, but I am a complete noob to this and have no idea what to do etc, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

RecBoot uses libusb which is a mission on Win 7 x64 - i have libusb-win32-bin-1.2.0.0.zip - has anyone had success?

I eventually jail broke OS4, as I was not able to get the downgrade to OS3 to work. The jail break has made the phone a bit more enjoyable with all the customizations etc. But still very sluggish!

If you had Cydia before on a previous iPhone OS, it would have saved the SHSH blobs for you.

So in order to downgrade you need to add the cydia ip address to the etc/hosts file in windows (or Mac equivalent)

Google for the full instructions and you should be good to go.

Side track here, I pick up my new 3GS 16Gb from Vodacom on Tuesday. I suspect it will have 3.1.3 Is it an easy jailbreak?

Next question, would it be worthwhile upgradeing to OS4? and would a jailbreak still be possible?

Thanks, I had fianlly got the hang of jailbreaking and upgrading/downgrading a 3G, now I'm moving on :)
