Download failed!!!

I kept on getting download failed with the .284 version from cell c. Then i went and downloaded .546 from Vodafone UK and it worked! i never get the download failed anymore, seems to be some issues with the versions from Cell C blocking the downloads more then 10mb. so im happy with my decision now :)

I am also with cell c and am using bundle 1306(v6.0.0.359,platform 6.5.0.93).I am also experiencing the problem with download failed . Please could you advise step by step where to go and how to download the version that will work , this is my first bb and i am not too sure how to go about it all . I would really appreciate any help.

1st Download .546 Version from this website:

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do

Then Follow these instructions:

ELITE1's Quick OS6 UPGRADE GUIDE
(Optional) Uninstall any previous OS from your PC.
Download OS to PC. Use Internet Explorer to do so, not Firefox or Chrome. (For leaked versions, the browser is irrelevant though.)
Following successful DL, run OS file to install OS on PC.
On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.
Go through any 3rd party apps that have option to save settings to media card, and conduct Backup to media card from menu within each of these apps. (Examples: all Bellshare apps such as BerryBuzz & BerryWeather; QuickLaunch; Shao's apps such as Wallpaper Changer & SixTools; Show Me The Images; etc).
Connect BB to PC. Open DM and backup device. Close DM.
(Optional) Use desktop program like BBSAK or BBMCP to backup 3rd party apps.
On PC, navigate to
•64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader and delete file therein called Vendor.
•32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader and delete file therein called Vendor.
(Optional/Recommended) Run BB Boss or Shrink-A-OS/BBHybrids Tool.
In same AppLoader file where you deleted Vendor, double-click on Loader to initiate OS upgrade. Follow onscreen instructions.

I Skipped the Optional/Recommended parts, you don't need to do those, but if u want too, you still can.

Nice one on 990MB lol,i have only done 3.2 gigs of data in a month on BIS sigh,in regards to downloading other file types like 3gp,mp4 i found for myself that deleting that extra service book entry always solves the downloading failed for my torch,it always works for me when i receive download failed, once i finish the download i restore the service book entry,it just works for me so anyone can try it if all else fails,no harm i guess

Hi I also have a torch and I'm on mtn. Now whenever I try to download a large file 30MB+ I get an error saying request entity to large. But seeing as you have a torch and download large files with ease I'm assuming you don't get that error. How do you do that? Please help I really want to download large files with my blackberry because I have no other source of internet :( thanks

I hate to rain on your parade dude but fair usage policies have become the norm , so large downloads are a thing of the past.
Rather get yourself some decent gigs.

Eish that sucks! Thanks for the quick reply. But I'm still unsure because without blackberry internet browser 2 SB I get the "request entity too large" error but with it the large files start to download but fail at roughly 10%. This always happens with the SB not being deleted. The only way I can download something is without the SB.
I'm still hopeful :) anyone please help

Well with all the abuse chances are they managed to re-implement the original download limit of 3mb per file, would explain the 10% of the 30mb file.

Im running OS5 on my 9700 and I download 30MB+ files daily.

Keep an eye on your signal. I noticed that while downloading if my signal drops from 3G to GPRS the download will fail, every time! It happened to me on previous versions of OS5, OS6 and even my current OS5.0.0.979.

Alternative is either to make sure you're in a good 3G coverage area when downloading or alternatively use Bolt. Using Bolt gives you the option to pause your download once your 3G signal drops. Then you scan your networks, select 3G and resume your download. The latter being a bit tedious.

I do not recommend BOLT, especially for BlackBerry®.
This comes from years of experience with browsers.
Bolt may be good for watching videos over a wifi connection but downloading and page rendering have issues.
I believe that there are Better mobile browsers out there.
[/url] like Opera Mini ~latest v6~ which is good for multiple downloads, loses connection on pause though.
But by far the best ids UC browser!
You can schedule a whole bunch of downloads on it and it will only download 3 @ a time. Works fine when application is minimized as well. Stores partially downloaded files for a long period of time.
Since it is made in china, you're bound to have some issues though like if you download from appworld you will get the Chinese edition.
Do not do that, rather search google and latest version now.

For refrence, I downloaded 106MB last week using the built in browser. Before that I downloaded many smaller files. Songs and videos of 20MB happen on a daily basis lol.

Using bis or wifi????

K cool this looks like a good idea, but I'm just stressed that on my BB service books I cannot find this BB internet service2...any please help

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Alright so I've tried a few of the suggestions given during the course of yesterday. Went to blackberry os and registered etc, was about to download then I decided to find out about warranty and stuff. From what I've read I could void my warranty by changing the os myself especially a leaked os. So I'm not too keen on that.

Then tried the SB, deleted SB2 and tried a download. Worked fine but rather slow(annoying!). Problem was it felt as if my bbm messages were being delayed by few minutes. So I undeleted the SB2. Any idea what the SB2 is used for? Are both SB's required for normal functioning of my phone? I don't want to be fixing one problem by creating another. Point to note is that the download without SB2 would not ALWAYS work, that too would fail at times but I did manage to get some done which was better than before.

Also tried vodacom, spoke to a consultant and asked to have my service books resent. Got a message on my phone about my email activation only, then I rebooted. When resending SB's is that the correct message to receive?
I'm still leaning on my OS6 being the problem but if it is I'll wait for an official release from vodacom.
Ah tis a long reply lol. Oh and damn! You guys got some great file sizes downloaded.
Thanks again guys, Cheers

When i used my BB it used to do the same thing when the phone went dim, so basically i would have to keep the phone alive while the download was happening and it stopped failing, try that....
