Hi,

I was battling the whole weekend with my connection - it would connect, but the data (downlink) would just stop after a few minutes. I had to reconnect then get a few minutes, then reconnect... etc

I was busy trying to download a 60MB file with Free Download Manager in the background while browsing some websites. The download never completed - in the 2 or 3 minutes that the downlink worked, I'd get a 1 or 2 Mbytes, then nothing, even the website browsing would stop.

Tried again today, and the browsing is fine! But when I download a file with Free Download Manager, the link stalls again! I just downloaded the file use "save file", without the download manager and it worked 100%

What the hell?

Any ideas?

Cheers
Greg

Not sure about FDM, but there was a particular download manager that was notorious a few years back for including adware and spyware which would then clog up one's internet connection, i.e. the malware would 'call home' and use up all available bandwidth leaving the user unable to do even basic browsing etc.

I recommend that you install and properly configure a decent firewall if you have not already done so, failing that try using NetLimiter to see if a process is transferring data when it shouldn't be transferring data and where that data is being transferred to.
