Download Managers

@Wag Thats not bad I think the max for those devices are 1.8.

If that is the case I made a big mistake by joining them. I was under the impression 3 mps is the norm. What is the fastest download recorded with neotel
 
I use IDM, have been for the past 5 months and it works just fine. I have a Premium Rapidshare account though, so maybe that's why I've never had issues with Neotel d/l. Trying to surf and visit other sites while the download is running however is totally another issue - speed crawls!!! Looks like d/l gets priority and other normal http traffic gets "shaped"/curtailed...

There is no priority system whatsoever. All that the download manager does is ask for the file in pieces and dl them simultaniously. The result is getting x amount (usually 8) connections to the file server at the same time. With IP routing, the download as a whole gets 8times as much bandwidth as your browser (usually browsers only use one connection for the dl and display of website). Thats what makes dl managers "fast". They just spam the file server with connections, hence why everything else slows down.
