Hi

What kind of download speeds can I expect on a 192kbs shaped account using DAP and P2p.

Probably and optimistically 3 - 4 KB/s since those protocols aren't in Telkom's "prioritized" port vision for South Africa.

Checkout the FreeProxy offered by NukeCap. It is totally free and routes these ports over a VPN connection on one of the "prioritized" ports and once outside of the Telkom network (U.S) the traffic reverts to the originally intended port. You should get close to 128kb/s (16KB/s) with the new changes implemented by NukeCap.

Edit: Not sure if you can change the port DAP runs on (server side).

So NukeCap will get the speeds up where they should be. How do you setup NukeCap.

Sorry but I'm not clued up on how to get around the Tele Nazi's restrictions.
 
Goto nukecap.co.za and check the forum for freeproxy. It's a matter of signing up on the forum thread and having Clipse setup a user account for you, then just install the client (link provided) and connect with username and password and away you go.

Clipse is also a myadsl forumite, so PM him for more responsive assistance. :-)
 
What are the chances of Telscum finding a way of stoping NukeCap and others like it in the future.

Telkom will have to disable the internet, until then they cant stop us.

Telscum will cripple the freeproxies come Nov 1st with hard capping.

Probably the reason they started hard capping, b/c we were circumventing their bloody stupid port prioritization and bandwidth shaping!
 
FreeVPN runs on international available shaped uncapped bandwidth (shooo alot of wording) so hardcapping wont be a problem here.

Our local uncapped proxy will also not be a problem on our IS ADSL accounts we will offer from November. Remember, these accounts will connect to us via the local available bandwidth.

I sometimes get full speeds on P2P, depending on seeds.
Get 18-21kB on DAP, somtimes up 2 32kB late night
