Hey all

I own a JETTA 4 1.8T R(132kw).Recently installed a 63mm TNT exhaust system but still has the original 50mm downpipe with cat.

I have noticed that the power hasnt increased but the tone is sweet!I have expected to gain more from this upgrade.I am now seeking to get a little more bang from my car but dont want to chip!

If i have to remove the cat from the downpipe..will i gain more KW?

Any particular reason you dont want to chip?

If jk8 is anything to go by you have a ferrari killer just waiting to be unleashed under the bonnet ;)

Any reason you only went 63mm and not bigger? Also, did they use mandrel or crush bends? If using crush bends on 63mm, you're going to loose some diameter in the bends, which is probably the reason you're not feeling much of a power increase.

Downpipe is a a good upgrade, but check your warranty conditions carefully. Some places void it even from just having the exhaust done.

The DP WILL give you extra KW's esp on turbo car...good luck mate!

You have a turbo sucking in air and also need it to get out as fast as possible, kkza is right, you can make alot of power from this engine. I say do a 76mm downpipe and decat. You will see a difference in power and acceleration!

Let me put it this way. On a Turbo engine, the best kind of exhaust is NO exhaust, if you could vent exhaust gasses directly from the exhaust manifold then that would be the best setup, naturally that will get you into trouble because of noise and it's going to look very bad.

So you best option is to go for a exhaust with as little restriction as possible. 1 back box and thick piping.

So obviously removing ANYTHING will increase performance, especially the cat.

from what i heard the mk4 1.8t's like a 76mm dp to 63mm
i used to have a 132kw - till it was written off
but software will give you the biggest bang for your buck

no doubt, changing your exhaust has voided your warranty, software wouldve been a more stealth route to go for till your warranty expires, thats why i did mine first (some even have the ability to revert back to stock - revo)
just try and take it to a dealer thats a bit more lenient on mods now

VW is aware of my exhaust upgrade but has not voided the warranty.Any particular software upgrade you can suggest that will give me atleast 20KW more?

Revo software FTW - can be removed come service time. Be careful - on the ST's a decat / downpipe and exhaust causes the engine to run slightly lean - BAD, BAD for turbo cars - will melt a piston. Get software ASAP.

Just get yourself a PD160 downpipe like JK8 put on his PGTi...

Its given him 120kw ON the wheels and he kills pretty much everything on the roads even ferrari's and bentleys.

:wtf:Just called a few guys and they say that to put in a 73mm DP is kind of impossible.Maximum they would recommend is 57 .Any advice?

Hahaha what crap. You speaking to the wrong guys, unless the Jettas have something that the golfs and polos dont.
Checkout the VW Club forum, everyone recommends DP before SW but either way its good power.

Ferraris and Bentleys? From little Fords and Volvos you read ferraris and Bentleys? And WTF a PD160 DP?

Sorry.. my mistake..

PD160 intake....

and your pisspoor little PGTi can't take on a Volvo T5.... period.. however much you would like to think so.

You have proof?
I wish there were more idiots on the road with T5s for me to play with...
So how bout you keep quiet bigmouth, what you drive btw?

Yeah, I have proof...

Volvo C30 T5 in standard spec has 162kw, tops out at 240km/h and does 0-100 in 6.7s
Your PGTi in standard spec has 110kw, top outs at 216km/h and does 0-100 in 8.2seconds.

Note that those kw figures are for at the FLYWHEEL.. not at the wheel. Your puny little PGTi doesn't stand a hope in HELL of even keeping up with a Volvo C30 T5
