Just curious if anyone else suddenly got a random spam e-mail (specifically Uncapped users) from this (http://www.downstorm.co.za) site? It reads:

Hey Friends,

We have reached our final beta test for DownStorm.

What is DownStorm?

DownStorm allows you to download your torrents onto our Super Fast 1Gbs server, once done, you download the torrent from the server using HTTP, effectively bypassing any shaping your ISP may implement.

What are the advantages of using DownStorm?

Not only will you no longer have to wait ages for your torrent, you will also protect yourself, as no-one can see which torrents you download. Thus, DownStorm offers you an element of privacy that this world so dearly lacks!

How do the packages work?

Packages work on a Storage Space model, not a usage based one. This means, if you purchase 5GB's, you will be able to download as much to the server and as much from the server as you'd like. Your only limitation is your storage space. You may delete files in storage to free up space for new torrent downloads.

How do I get access to the Beta?

Kindly visit: http://www.downstorm.co.za

Click on the Beta Test button, and signup. Once a spot is free, we will send you a Voucher No with signup instructions.

Happy downloading!

Kind regards
Chantelle

I find it extremely strange and somewhat shady since it's literally a couple of days since Uncapped was introduced. They also have no contact details on the website aside from an e-mail address.

I've been wondering about this as well.

Are you an Openweb user or have been in the past?

The email was sent to the email address I have only ever used at Openweb.

Not happy about the spam.

Also got the downstorm email. have requested info from openweb.

thanks gregmcc, Astraweb look Amaerican. So... just go ahead and buy and put the username and password into my router?
I'm just getting into torrents.. and have been buying bandwidth from openweb on my credit card as i need it.

Any recommendations on getting uncapped. I've got a very fast 4meg line from telkom.

I bought an account about a week ago when my uncapped is shaped, and it runs at almost full speed. Chantelle also sounds pretty hot! (lady on the other side of the email)

Dont forget to input your credit card details TWICE hey, just to be sure!

Ive tested this service with Axxess uncapped and it works very well.

Just got an email from these guys right now.... I am on mweb uncapped and signed up on 31 March. Today i get 2 spam mails, first from cooljobs3000.com and second from downstorm.co.za
What is up with this nonsense?
I've been particularly careful in not registering my email address anywhere.

I didn't get any emails - I clicked an at at speedtest.net.
Use them to download all my torrents - works GREAT

Downstorm is pretty damn awesome I must admit. I have even cancelled my news server access and run soley on downstorm now.

I would recommend it to anyone out there.;)

I am considering the same thing now. Seeing as my astraweb downloads never goes above 150kb anymore.

5 gigs of storage for R49 it ain't half bad and i'm planning to increase it. The after sales service is awesome considering its only a measly 49 bucks.

News servers are shaped to hell especially if you have an IS based account. Can't see why I need to pay R110 for newshosting when I can pay less with an account @ Downstorm.

Lets just say that before I was introduced to DS i was on a 384 line. Now im Rolling on a 4MB(cant wait for the exchange upgrade) line. Found out about DS on a speedtest link.

Works like a dream, never looked back since. To all of you complaining about it I would suggest you treat that mail as a golden ticket in a chocolate bar....

Won't disagree with your sentiment although it needs to be pointed out that most T's and C's in contracts with ur ISP will strongly disagree with you working around their shaping protocol - it is rumoured to be one of the few things in practice that will see you removed with immediate effect from your network.

I'm no expert but I'd assume that the anyone using this service during peak hours is taking whatever bandwidth is left from the remaining subscribers to power their line speed FDM DLs..
