Top engineering professor Viktor Verijenko resigned from the University of KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, a day after allegations of plagiarism involving Chippy Shaik surfaced.

Instead of being bashful about it, according to reports, Sheik tried to rub it in and play the race card. Young gave him his best shot and Chippy is down. He will never recover. Great

So are you implying that the tender was fair?

Funny how the media seems to think the tender was rigged, that Shaik is and was involved - as was Zuma ("corrupt relationship"). The German government has the same charge. The French company Thint has already been prosecuted. Why do you always beg to differ?

This is actually entirely untrue. Each and every sub-system of the corvette combat suite, except for the three foreign procured items (Anti-Ship Missile, Hullmount Sonar and Search Radar) were nominated items of supply by the SA Navy.

C²I²'s IMS certainly was a superior technology (and product) than Thomson-CSF Detexis's Diacerto Databus. A host of reviews and reports prove this. Also the IMS was fully conformant to the SA Navy's combat suite specification whereas the Diacerto Databus was not in any way conformant.

It is also highly relevant that the US Navy has only in the last year adopted an advanced combat system network architecture that C²I² had fully developed over 10 years ago in terms of its IMS.

Either xtermin8or lies when he claims that he worked quite closely with the investigators, or he is completely ignorant of the true facts.

In any case if he is confidant of his integrity and credibility, he should have no qualms about revealing his real identity.

But it is interesting that he now appears to be banned on this blog thread.

It wasn't the media but Dr Richard Young who discovered the plagiarism in his thesis. Our media don't investigate to that level but rather just reports on news events.

I initially concluded in around June 2004 that the thesis had almost certainly been plagiarised to a large degree and certainly was not the "own, unaided work" of the candidate as attested in his declaration.

My own detailed analysis and review during March and April 2007 confirmed this beyond any reasonable doubt.

The press article was published on 20 May 2007.

The publication of the allegations of plagiarism was certainly a collaborative effort.

The 12 January 2009 should kickstart this thread right in the butt, because the underlying issue, The Big Issue, The Arms Deal, gets or does not get a big breath of oxygen when the Supreme Court of Appeal delivers its judgment in the State's appeal against the ruling of Nicholson J.

In the meantime I find it interesting that both xtermin8tor and Skeptic have been banned. I wonder why?

Their absence might make the site more polite, but less interesting.

Well the subject is, IMO, still relevant because it is symptomatic of a far deeper malaise afflicting SA. e.g. Mokgabas Mbeki-like committment to "African" science at the expense of rigerous scientific method. Academics such as Mokgaba and Tshabalala-Msimang are reducing what was once considered a superb scientific infrastructure to the laughing stock of the scientific world. Precedents such as the Nazi regard for "Jewish" science spring to mind.

Hey Richard I think most of us have just stopped caring as some people in SA are just above the law. We can scream and complain all we want but it will never change anything.
