What is the dragonflights role in WoW?, I saw the cinematic today, were Bovard gets killed at the wrath gate by the forsaken, then randomly these dragons arrive and burn the living shizzzz out of everyone and then just flees into the sunset... :confused::confused::confused:

I haven't even started playing... I have a level 14 paladin which was last active in 2007... I watched the cinimatic on WoW website... under patch videos..

With all the sugar-coated, kiddie-and-grandma-friendly brainless content Blizzard push into the game, it is very easy to miss the entire story,lore and plot of the game. The entire game is designed to be a series of "distractions" kinda like "i wonder who this guy is, maybe i should read these quest text a bit....look a sparkly pony!!!" . The best way to learn Warcraft lore seems to be to go read it outside the game, as in not playing the game....ironic.

I wouldn't be surprised if large majority of players hit lvl 85 and have no clue who Arthas is, but they will know exactly which boss drops which purple item in which dungeon. It might even be Arthas dropping said item, but he will only be known as "the boss who drops the epic helmet" .

What you have done is the equivalent of reading the first chapter in a book and then skipped to the part where all the **** goes down... and then unsuprisingly becoming confused.

Diablous: No... the content and blizzard are not to blame. They provide everything in game to get a lot of the lore out... It's a case of PEBKAC. People want to be max level without going through the effort of doing so.

Admittedly, there are things you may need to read up on, like the Lore that started the original Warcraft, Orc vs Humans on to warcraft 2 and warcraft 3 + expansion.

To those of us who have been playing blizzard games a while, we understand where it comes from, for those who were sparkles in their dads eye at the time... need to catch up a little.

you could say that. or you could ask why you, as a confirmed wow-hater, are still on a wow forum, and posting at that.

Must say I love the lore. Most of which I picked up from resources outside the game. There is plenty of it and I am by no means an expert.

@OP

In a nutshell:

Each dragonflight represents something. Blue = Magic, Red = Life, Green = Nature and stuff, Black = earth, Bronze = Time. They were made as guardians of Azeroth before elves, man, dwarfs etc.

Each dragonflight has a big chief. Some have gone mad and became raid bosses. The blue guy and now our newest villian Deathwing (the black chief).

Some still have contact and alliances with the other races of Azeroth. Red, Green and Bronze. The scene you saw was the red dragons helping out the alliance and horde in their first attempt at Arthas aka Lich King.

There is a spesific questchain you need to finish in the game to come to this cut-scene. It starts in Dragonblight zone round about lvl 72-74 (for alliance). Check wowhead for details.
