Just saw this great news online and wanted to share : (sorry if this was posted already)

https://www.techrepublic.com/articl...to-intel-cpu-shortage-prompting-retail-sales/

Prices for PC DRAM chips--the chips that are used in (SO)DIMM memory modules for desktops, laptops, and servers--have fallen by 30% for Q1 2019, the sharpest decline in a single quarter since 2011, according to DRAMeXchange. Though a decline was anticipated, original estimates put it at a less-drastic 25% for the quarter.

I don't see how Intel can have an affect on dram prices when last year they already said it would drop in price. Maybe they have been caught price fixing again.

Ram prices have already been dropping for the 1st quarter of 2019 by quite a bit. Not seen it translate to our local retailers...

Hopefully the "trusted in tech" journalists can try to find out why we DON'T ever see the significant price drops on RAM here in SA.

PS. Oops, I forgot on MyBroadband.co.za they're mostly the "copy and paste" type of journalists.

Some more on this: Analysts claim largest DRAM price decline since 2011

KitGuru Says: These price reductions are currently affecting the channel and may not have trickled down to consumer retailers yet, so that is worth keeping in mind. Still, it will be interesting to keep an eye on the RAM market this year, particularly after prices climbed so high in recent years.

dram prices are likely to increase due to a spat between japan & s. korea.
