Hi guys, got the same problem with the driver issue. I know there are some other threads explaining this, just looking for some answers. I'm getting this problem way after our users have installed the software and have been using it for a while, it's just becoming a bit tedious to have re-install the whole bangshoot every second day. The mf.inf and mf.pnf files, are they located on the VMC CD or are they just standard Windows files? I take it that ver5 of the dashboard solves this issue ?

Not to sure what problem you have, but having to reinstall so often is very wrong.

Maybe give 155 a call and ask them to walk you through, they can also mail you the files.

Where are you based?

Hi V3G, it's the issue where the Windows Installer pops up when trying to run the profile creator, ends up saying there was a problem installing the hardware etc. On the phone to 155 listening to the lovely muusic, hopefully they should be able to send me the mf.* files. I'm not based near any Vodashops and we've got a large number of users based all over the place... (Majority up North)

OK, if you don't come right, PM me a contact number and I'll give you a call.

Which data card are you using?

At the moment it looks like its only happening with the Novatel cards, I've had no driver issues so far with any of our Option cards, I suspect it might be because ver5 of the VMC dash was shipped with the Option.

Here's the official workaround:
--------------------------
Following workaround should work with Windows XP:

a. Insert the card and select the Novatel MF device with the yellow exclamation mark.
b. Press 'del' to remove the device
c. Unplug the U630 from the PC card slot.
d. Reboot the notebook
e. Copy the two original Windows inf files (mf.inf and mf.pnf) to %SYSTEMROOT%\INF (e.g. C:\Windows\inf)
f. Start the Vodafone Profile Manager
g. Insert the card when the software asks to do so.
Then the installation process should finish properly. The needed files must be from the same Windows language version that the customer is using.
----------------------------

The way I understand it is that once you've installed an old version you must do the above. Installing a new version over the old one won't automatically fix the issue.

am i corect in saying theyve been working now theyre not??
if this is the case the mf files should still be in the inf folder and hus dont need to be replaced..a start would be to chk the device props and se if you get any other exclamations..........most commonly on modem or port.........if so ,resources keep defaulting and you might need o try diff resource settings(gnerally 4/5/6 should work) However if the exclamaion is on the mf itself then the workaround might be necc but even then this doesnt always work.pm me if you need the mf files. also could youre lptp estb connection with the crd or not?imho source vr 4 .

Yeah the cards have been working fine for a while, nothing has changed then all of a sudden, poof. Can't seem to be able to find the mf files on the CD so I've sent you my addy, thanks in advance. In the meantime I'm going to delete them and then create a new profile. Biggest problem is I don't have these laptops in front of me so it tends to make life a bit more interesting and my ear a bit warmer from the damn phone time :p

Driver installation keeps looping

I recently installed CheckPoint SecuRemote, my employer's VPN software. This really seemed to conflict with the Vodafone software I got the following error - "The Merlin U630 could not be detected" . After un-installing SecuRemote my data card would not connect. I have then uninstalled and re-installed the Vodafone software numerous times and each time the driver installation seems to loop and then eventually I get "driver installation failed", Any ideas? I also have to instruct the installation on where to find the inf files.

Driver installation loops

Even when I copy the mf files into the folder I get the same problem??

The mf.ini and mf.pnf files are only available on the older Vodafone 3G installation disks.. version 4.

If you still have problems getting them PM me and I will email them to you

Guys, I managed to come right with the problem. Follow the instructions in this Thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=27540&highlight=driver+error

The only problem I can find is that it might happen again. Something along the lines of it getting a bit confused with resources if you have other hardware that you use or if you have a second pcmcia slot? Just follow the instructions and you should come right, I tried the shortcuts, not restarting etc and got no-where.... :p
