I don't think I have ever heard of the Novatel U600 before now, is it a data card that was released in SA?

He must have gotten his wires crossed

I know about the SAMSUNG U600 and the Novatel U630, but the U600?? If Google doesnt even list it then it must not exist?

Sorry you right, U630... somehow XP picks it up as a U600.... just like my other xp machine which picks up my Huawei E620 as a E600.... but ne ways where can i find the drivers??

Vodacom and Novatel only, AFAIK, supply the firmware upgrades which dont work because it comes as an .exe file so the card has to be installed for the program to upgrade its firmware.

I'm not too sure, but there is a file in the windows directory(do a search) called mf.inf

That driver seems to get the card to work, and that's the driver i have had problems with. becoz somehow windows loads the driver, but then you get an error message in device manager(cant remember the code number) saying its a corrupt or old driver about Windoes 95 or something and that some lines are missing in the driver file.

Copy mf.inf from your other machines to the same directory of the pc you having problems with and see what happens.

Thanks dude, that seemed to have worked. Only problem now is that i get this message in the device status: This device cannot start ( Code 10 )

edit: upgrading firmware.. maybe that helps

What you could do now is to uninstall the devices from device manager, and then creating a new profile. Try that.

Gonna take a while now, my collegues pc only has 256MB RAM and has decided to freeze

but wont i lose the mf.inf file if i uninstall the driver?

Nope. The driver file still remains on your machine. you only removing an instance of the device.

Has Novatel always made such "unuser friendly devices?"

My Huawei installed one time, no problems

it seems so yes. i found out about that mf.inf in a very funny way... UNDER PRESSURE.

I had a customer who told me he aint leaving until i get ti fixed and i was struggling. so he said "When i come back there will be hell to pay if it isnt fixed yet" and well... he did pay... but not hell :D He paid me for a job well done :)

Ok well i found what the problem is, it seems with certain makes of laptops specifically the:
Fujitsu Siemens --- Amilo L. 6825, Amilo D. 7830
HP Compaq ---- NX9105
iQon ---- 1.8 Notebook 8170
Toshiba ---- Satelite 3000

Windows XP has a problem assigning proper resources to the multifunctional device therefore creating a hardware installation problem ( Code 10 )

Can be fixed by viewing the following document. It only has GPRS only atm  ( next to my lappy with Hauwei running on 3G and on both networks therefore confirming Novatel cr@p :D

site is: http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/files/TSBU530_001(EC10).pdf

Hope this helps others out there :D

EDIT: this might help aswell: http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/files/TSBUMTS_001B_EC10_.pdf ( this will help you upgrade your serial drive )
