Drivers License

Hey all,

Right, so I've managed to lose my drivers license (don't ask how, cos I have no idea) but I was fortunate enough to have a copy of it lying around at home.

If I get this copy signed/stamped etc at a police department, does it make it valid for me to drive around with? I only have a month left before my license expires anyway so it won't even be for long.

Thanks all,

Sabbz :)

For them to stamp it at the police station, they will need to verify that the copy is an accurate copy of the original.

Rather go to the drivers license department and pay for your new license and ask them for temporally license which cost around R80, if not mistaken.

By copy, do you mean photocopy? That won't be valid...

Just go and renew your licence early, and get a temp licence for the time until it's ready to collect. It's only about R30 for the temp licence, if I remember correctly.

Or get a replacement licence - you just need to go to the cops and file a report saying you lost your licence, and then go through the normal licence renewal process.

Your license is expiring soon?
You're supposed to get a new one BEFORE the old one expires.
Once it's expired, you're gonna have to redo the learners and drivers. [ <-- Wrong !!! ]

Now get into the torture queue and get your new license and a temporary one.

No, you don't.

It's the licence card that expires, not the licence.

There might be a limit on it somewhere, you might not be able to not renew for 10 years and then go and renew it, but it's definitely not as soon as the card expires.

Thanks CathJ, I was mistaken.

I looked for something to collaborate your statement, and found this on the e-natis website:
If you ever had a driving licence card, the driving licence itself remains valid until cancelled by a court. You need a valid document only if you are actually driving. If you get 'caught' driving with an expired licence, you will should only get prosecuted for driving without a valid document, not for driving without a licence.
No penalties are payable for late renewal of a driving licence card. You can just apply for a new card on from DL1 and a TDL. Your driving licence record should be against your ID on the eNaTIS.

You can drive around with that affidavit for a couple weeks no problem. Just carry some other form of picture ID with you.

Lost Drivers license card

I lost my new drivers license card a few weeks ago
To get a replacement you need 2 id photos, your ID book and R140.
Hillstar issued me with a temporary license as the card takes 6-8 weeks to arrive. There was no need for me to get my eye's re-tested :)
*Remember to take your own pen as there are never pens at these places!
