Hey guys

So I've found a driving school and I'm going to start lessons next week. I've been hearing that yard test is quite difficult, so that's playing on my mind. I believe I'd be able to drive just fine (going with auto due to injury) but I think the yard test might be an issue even though I've never drove before so I don't even know but I sort off ovethink things.

What did you guys do besides lessons to improve on the parking aspect of the test?

Thank you!

Get comfortable and practice, the less nervous you are on the day the better it will be

if you do auto you can only drive an auto. be a man, man. if you have never driven before you have no idea if you can drive just fine.

Yup practice, back in the day, i made a rule with my parents, If i'm in the car i'm driving it.
drove as much as i could, practiced in shopping center parking lots on sunday afternoons.
Passed first try, despite the massive corruption.

I'm thinking of doing exactly that, finding a parking lot a the mall and practice the parking aspects. Parallel and ally docking more i believe

How bad is the injury? Aim to do the test with a stick (manual tranny) & then get a car with an auto.

Lastly practice, practice & practice.
It's bad unfortunately, auto is my only option.

But it could be the talks from people getting to me.

Also make sure you are very comfortable pulling away on an incline, that is an instant fail for a small mistake. The testing grounds use quite a steep incline and most people fail there

Trust me I would but I can't help if I'm going to be pain each time I work on the clutch etc.

I have to also have my license asap for work purposes when I start.

what sort of injury?

Before you waste money on lessons. Go to a quiet and safe spot with an experienced driver of course. And just start driving and parking. Do it for a week or two or until you comfortable. Then go for lessons.

Definitely agree with this, a level of confidence will help you greatly, before you start your lessons and waste money on learning the basics or getting comfortable

There's places available that you can go and practice parking between the poles etc. Just Google.

it might cost R20 per hour or so, but at least you can do it full circle IE Parallel parking, reverse parking, etc

The yard test in SA is really easy if u follow the step by step instructions given in this video. I used it when I was preparing for my test. It tells u when and how much to turn the wheel too.
My driving instructor taught me exactly the same way as in the video. Just follow the steps blindly and u will be fine.
