What the US is even doing there is a mystery. The middle East problem are there own problems. I say leave them be and let them sort it out.

How is it illegal if the Jordanian government know the base is there and have been actively working with the US for over decade on internal security and counter-terrorism matters?

Jordan is considered a key US ally in the region and has upwards of 3,000 US service personnel based in the country.

I bet “thoughts and prayers” have already started flooding in for the families. So comforting, and the usual $25 000 cheques from the White House are already enroute to the grieving wives and fatherless children. Totally worth it to send your sons to foreign countries to fight endless wars.

$100k and family also gets military benefits (e.g. You don't pay rates on property, at least on spouse's main home afaik).

It's life changing money for their families. Whether it's worth it, not sure, but family is definitely taken care of.
