Dropbox usernames and passwords hacked

What? Another security breach? Geez Dropbox, get your act together. Fortunately I don't really have anything important in there except my Keepass database, which is heavily encrypted. Think I'll add some additional encryption anyway.

Edit - Decided to rather go with Google Drive. Been looking for an excuse to switch anyway.

“Our investigation found that usernames and passwords, recently stolen from other websites, were used to sign in to a small number of Dropbox accounts. We’ve contacted these users and have helped them protect their accounts,” the company wrote in a blog post.

So they didn't hack Dropbox per se? Is it our fault people use the same passwords for multiple sites? Or am I misunderstanding the article?

Okay, after reading the article properly, it seems user stupidity is at fault. Still switching to Google Drive though.

how does google drive work?

Similar to Dropbox only it is integrated into your Google account. It also integrates with your Google Docs, if you're using that service. Pretty impressed with it so far.

Just heard a review of this on security now podcast... it was a dropbox employee who had user email addresses in a document he had, his account was hacked.

That's it? They have my email address?

Something must be stirring iro the 2012 incident, I received this last week:

We’re reaching out to let you know that if you haven’t updated your Dropbox password since mid-2012, you’ll be prompted to update it the next time you sign in. This is purely a preventative measure, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.
