Dropshot

NECRO ALERT:

I am ready to absorb whatever you can share with me regarding dropshot fishing. On my way to the Garden Route in a couple of weeks, got most of my gear ready and can literally not wait to get there!

Please share photo's of what you've caught, as well as techniques, fishing spots and gear! I am all ears!
Loads of fun in the lagoons at wildness. If you're lucky you can pick up juvenile garrick.
Knysna lagoon is always fun off the railway bridge.

If you don't come right using jigheads with Sandworm lures, change to a sliding sinker on mainline with prawn as bait.

Sounds good, thanks! We'll be staying on the western side of George (Glentana), but a couple of trips to Knysna and Wilderness will definitely be added to my to-do list.

Make a prawn pump before you go to collect mud prawn as you drive. Also make sure you have bait collection and fishing license. Inspectors are on the ball in that area.

Which is the correct license to have for mudprawns? IIRC it was not really clear on the license form. Luckily I can take out licenses in the local post office, so I can tick that off before I get there so long. :)

Berkley Ripple Shad for dropshot, color Glow/Chartreuse and Louisiana Purple 3in/8cm, for the cob and the odd Leerie

Also get a Rapala X-Rap walk for Leeries, grunter and cob...

Was caught 4 weeks ago in the Breede, lures works the same at Segefield etc

Found this video that I thought was actually quite valuable.

Awesome catches irBosOtter! I'm new to dropshot, normally do rock and surf. Have not had much success, apart from a few small Leeries and elf, although the elf kept chomping off the tail of the lure which became an expensive exercise.

What is that lure you used for the kob as I want to try for them?

My late step dad was big into it. A pity, but I don't think I kept his lures - he had a ton, otherwise I'd say you could have them Ghoti.
I don't fish much, but dropshot fishing is awesome in my books.
My old man hauled many nice specimens off of Cove Rock. He once caught around 8 Leeries and a huge Shad in one outing. Fairly light tackle for the size fish - leeries were all between 11 and 14kg and the shad was an incredible 9kg!
