DS vs PSP

I like good grafix ,will test my psp tonight with a friends ds,and i will try to compare hardware not fad ware.
I personally never held a ds in my hands,is it ergonomical

The DS vs PSP argument is much like a Wii vs PS3 argument.

Do you want the hot girl with a crappy personality or the ugly girl with the nice personality?

Also, you need to ask yourself what type of games you like? If you like Sony games like Wipeout, God of War, Metal Gear etc. then go with the PSP. If you like Nintendo games like Super Mario, Zelda, Pokemon etc. then go with the DS.

Personally I don't like Sony games (Metal Gear etc.). I find Mario and the Nintendo brand is much more appealing and entertaining.

So which of the consoles is the ugly girl with the nice personality?

nintendo pure gaming bliss..it's games are fun,not to mentally draining. PSP tries so hard to let you relive all those old PSX and PS2 games, which let me tell u isn't that much fun second time round..
homebrew adds some more depht to your psp enabling you to even run micro version's of linux etc..which is fun..but gaming wise,if u owned a ps2 or psx and not into spending hours of intensive gaming and just want the lighter side of gaming then go DS..if u want to tweak the sh*t out of a console and enjoy that kinda of thing then psp?
I personally owned a PSP,was fun..but think DS is nicer.

I've played 3 ds games so far... Castlevania portrait of ruin, sonic rush, and mario and sonic at the olympic games(lent this one from work lol, not gonna pay 599) and all three are amazing!

PSP simply because you can emulate previous consoles. The PSX games library alone is huge, and most of the main PS2 releases are available for the PSP. And that's not even considering it's non-gaming capabilities.

I owned a couple of Nintendo consoles in the past and they were ok as a kid, but as a grown up, those cutesy-type games irritate the crap out of me.

So there I was at CNA Tygervalley on Saterday and they had a DS on one of those play booth stands. Luckily for me nobody was around so I could play/test/checkout the DS in peace...I looked at all the various factors and compared them to my PSP, the build quality, plastic, the feel of the controls, screen, sound, graphics, etc....

End result.....

....THANK HEAVEN I bought myself a PSP rather than a DS...seriously not to be a fanboy or something..but jeez... I'm a ex Gameboy Advance user and the quality was much much higher.. The first thing about the DS that struck me was the tiny little cheap plastic loose d-pad...what rubbish. Anyway I can go on for hours and DS owners will argue to the death but if you want to buy a DS or PSP I would recommend getting to feel and play first because you buy.

P.S. Most PSP games are half the price than DS games in SA which also makes it more attractive.

Happy PSP owner here :D

@ highflyer
no offence but i wouldn't call castlevania, bleach blade of fate, metroid prime hunters, cod4(ok maybe i can't add that one) ultimate mortal kombat, and contra 4 cutesy type

I was referring to the traditional games that people like Nintendo for, stuff like the 1000 variants of Mario, Kirby and Yoshi for eg.

What I particularly like about the DS is that it has games that are different to what I play on other platforms.

Overall it seems durable enough and all the buttons are very responsive.

Well re the D-Pad being cheap/loose - had the DS for a good few months now - 9 months - and no sign of wear and tear at all.
With the touch-screen system, most of the games are able to be played using the stylus only and the games are being made with that in mind.

Both systems are great in their own way.
I bought the DS for the quality of game titles that are available.
The touch-screen allows previously non-handheld games (Advance wars being an exception) such as RTS be more easily playable. Games like Spore are going to be more readily available on the DS than with the PSP due to the touch-screen option.

Umm, I've had mine since September 2006 and haven't had anything wrong with it. Dpad is fine, no cracked hinges, dead pixels, touchscreen issues etc.

The only problem I do have is that sometimes I need to unplug and replug the cartridges back in or else it doesn't detect the cartridge.

I am an RPG fan so I am very happy with my DS Lite especially that Disgaea now being confirmed for the DS.

So lord spaceman.... Your sure there will come no harm to the touch screen? Coz i'm a bit carefull...
Also i see take has a big variety of ds games.... I'll have 2 get some money in.. And a credit card so i can rather buy from them.... Still wanna get a r4 or m3 though

I'd put a screen protector on it. I'd put one on a PSP too, because they're prone to getting scratched.

You don't need a credit card to buy from Take2(why does everyone think that?), you can pay via direct deposit, Internt banking tansfer or if you're with standard bank use their "autopay" option(I do).
