Hey guys,

I have this Dell C600 which has a broken DVD RW and a Floppy drive. I want to install a new OS because the windows 98 doesn't boot because the win.com file is corrupt and I can't get it to work. The question is can I install DSL on the laptop only with floppies or can I install any other OS only using floppies? I would use the LAN but it won't work since I can't boot. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. :)

If it has a USB port, put DSL on a flash disk and boot/install it off there.

Just google a guide on how to put DSL on a flashdisk so that its bootable.

Then create a boot floppy disk with USB support for your laptop, boot from the floppy, stick in the USB and do the installation from there.

If you really do not know how to do it I'm sure if you give the hardware specs on your laptop on a DSL forum they would be more than willing to even create the image for you.

You only need the the most essential compiled and of course USB support.

As soon as I have international again you can even give me a complete print out of your hardware specs and I'll see what I can do for you.

Damn...! just had a look at DSL.. am impressed at the functionality - all on a 50mb ISO file.
Will definately read up a bit more on this one.

DSL sounds really cool!I downloaded the cd last night and will be installing it as soon as I get home.... hope I can get it to install!
