Yeap, been a hard long 3 weeks. Ive got the 192k package, tops out at 21k or so. Luckily the telephone poll that shares to everyone else in the neighborhood is IN MY backyard :D

Pings arnt looking that great because I think the ISP is based in Capetown. I was given a test account and if I ping to Joburg I get 170 but to CT are about 70...

Will wait till I get my Axxess one :)
Anyway thought Id let be known my story...

Oohhh I almost forgot. I was speaking to the techie, a Very talkative guy. Hauw im even mates with his son from school back in the day! Bonus!

Anyway he says that the reason it takes so long for DSL to be installed is because, for one, they have so many orders(He said there were about 6 of them that had HUNDREDS of lines to install). Secondly, Now say for instance Mr Smith just ordered DSL. His order gets put onto a list with many other people BUT instead of it going to the back of the queue, it goes to the top. So now the people that have ordered 3weeks before him have to wait yet again. They keep getting pushed back! Also said that when theyve finished an order for the day, a brand new one comes in!
So now what happenes is the people that ordered long ago have to keep waiting and waiting!

Telkom *slap!* catch a wake up ****ers and sort your system out! btw, thanks for installing my line today ;)

Yeah, it sorta of makes one wonder about Telkom having to "reduce their workforce". One would figure that INCREASING their workforce would make them even MORE obscene profits.

I reckon the techie was talking crap ... they give you a waiting period of about 3 weeks until installation unless there is a technical problem i.e line quality or ports or distance issues.

It simply does not make any logical sense to put new orders in front of the queue , if they did so then the installs would have taken months and not weeks as it is currently.

Razer0, I'm in Durbs too, same line pkg - got it installed last week...had a cool techie guy as well - he said pretty much the same kind of thing ;)

Do us a favour and post some of the same tracerts and pings in this thread:

I thought 40-50ms is what Durbanite pings should be to games.saix.net...maybe yours are?

Ordered my ADSL Line on 4th June. Two followup calls to telkom which set date at 22nd June. On 21st June (Day Before) technicians phones to confirm installation and leaves his Cell Number. Installation arranged for approx 09:00.

On 22nd (Today) at 09:00 ADSL was switched on. Technician time 5 Minutes.
My Time PC Ethernet Config and ADSL router Config (Loaned Telkom ADSL Router) 2 Mins
Phone Call to AXXESS for Account. 2 Mins.

Line operational and Browsing at 09:20.

No problems experienced and very Good Service from technician. i.e. What was promised was delivered and operation on promised date and time.

I will now order my Router (wanted to be sure that ADSL would work - approx 5 kms form Exchange).

Generally the experience has been painless and an anti-climax after reading some of the forumites experiences with ADSl Orders ans Installations.

The Support and Assitance from Paul at access was top drawer.

Lol ye toxin, also just bought a brand new computer too so im Very happy currently :D

Tibby, the guys been working at telkom for 35-odd years or so, since he was 16. Id rather stick to his story. He's appears to be a Very decent guy. Pity for the fatcats he works for..

Lewstherin, will post there now ;)

Just applied yesterday and just got of the phone with Telkom after they called me back. I applied online. I hate listening to Telkom's hold music as it has not changed in 6 years.

I am actually a bit suprised they qoute 3 weeks till install date. They will still give me a date though have to do the other checks. Just wanted to give me a cost breakdown first which was incorrect so I corrected. :) This catches me off gaurd as I was hoping that it would be installed close to 1 August 2005 for the reduced rate. Will have to pay pro-rata I geuss.

But then again this is Telkom and things take longer than normal. :)
