Olla peeps!

I'm pulling my hear atm.

I have a 4Mb line, and the past 4 weeks I'm unable to play any COD, latency to high.

I logged a call with telkom, two days later, received sms, call resolved. Tested again, and logged a call again, two days later, resolved....now what you guys think I can do.

I tested my account with webafrica, afrihost and axxess....all same results.
Currently have a D-Link 2740U router, I tested the line with a USB DSL modem as well.
I tested it from my pc as well my laptop, same results.....surely the problem is not on my side then? The problem seems to not always be there, played a while last night and suddenly started lagging again. Tonight....no chance!

Here some info and tests

SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 204 (20.4dB) 120 (12dB)
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 180 (18dB) 90 (9dB)
Output Power (0.1 dBm): -37 43
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 9728 1064
Rate (Kbps): 3072 512 (used to sync at 4Mb) :wtf:

Here a quick ping to SGS website using Afrihost pre-paid. LAN connection to router.

C:\>ping games.saix.net -t

I had the same problem. I ended up going to the Telkom store so that I could MAKE them put the right information in the logged call. I was assigned a new DSLAM and the problem went away. When you log something like this with Telkom they will only reset the dslam not assign a new/different one. Unfortunately I have seen many of the dslams go faulty (I have to deal with this nonsense daily for clients) calling their call centre is useless.

That a line Attenuation/noise problem. Your values are far off the needed , Atuc SNR should be closer to under 56db.

Uhm. Read again, his attenuation and SNR values are quite alright. I'd say he is very close to his DSLAM port, but it does look like there could be noise or misconfiguration ons his line.

Thanks for all the replies guys, after some research, it does seem my snr and att rates are ok. Will log a call again....this time online and hopefully explain the prob better. So frustrating......still unable to play online. Luckily I stopped playing WoW, else I would have been crazy by now.....hehe

You could also check if G.Dmt modulation gives you better results than ADSL2+ modulation. All the decent modems should allow you to limit/change the DSL modulation.

But from the stats, your SNR margin should be like 20dB+ with such a low line attenuation!

Hi, thanks for reply.

Herewith updated modem settings....the SNR is higher than the initial post....so that is sorted then? Why still this messy latency / speed....arrgghhh.....Telkom just ignores me...hehe, also the connection mode is currently Mode: ADSL_G.dmt, however what mess around is the fact I played online yesterday perfectly, so the prob comes and goes......as if someone is killing the network when connected or something.

SNR Margin : 29.3 12.0
Attenuation : 18.0 9.0
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 81 61
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10592 992
Rate (Kbps): 3072 512

Pinged games.saix.net for few hours and these are the overall results.

I have no idea? Will see if I can visit one of the telkom offices locally and try better explain the prob as one suggested. But seeing the amount of ADSL posts crying out, I wonder if there is not a greater problem within Telkom somewhere?
