Interesting, I hadn't considered that. Unfortunately I'd have to buy a laptop and the 3G adapter then...

I'm guessing its "illegal" to "share" an ADSL connection among several neighbours using WiFi?

3G card you get free with a 24month contract. Speed is 384kbps. We got 212kbps with only 2 bars here at work

You can also get PC cards which you slot the PCMCIA into, not sure on their cost or availability locally, but worth a look

No you dont. Just get the SE V800 at R99/month. Connect via usb(data cable is include). Strap on a data bundle say R200 for 250MB and for less than your current costs you have 24/7 net access and enough data for surfing and mail.

honestly i dont see why WE should look for affordable crappy alternatives because of restrictions placed on us. 0.5G cap would be finished in no time at all, because its not just what u browse, its all data entering or exitting the modem. with ADSL always on and of a higher speed than dial-up or ISDN, it stands to reason that u would transfer alot more data. websites nowadays are loaded with java and flash applets, not to mention high graphics content, because web designers overseas have taken it for granted that everyone has access to affordable high-speed internet. unfortunately not in this country. everything that u do would contribute towards the cap, and i dont see these idiots separating local data from international simply because they're lazy money-hungry hogs.

the price

Heehee, so you are saying that if I get the business package, the SLA that comes with the business package - presumably that if DSL goes down, I get quicker service - actually means nothing to telkom, and that in reality we are all treated alike?

Now this telkom picture is starting to come together in my head ... just dreading the day that I actually order my DSL and I hear the estimated installation date on that.

lol, i ordered mine surprisingly they installed it 3 weeks later. what i dont get is they charge R404 as an "installation fee" and the only thing the guy did was to connect a filter to the phone, and the modem to the line. then he called the exchange and asked them to switch the line to adsl. now im sure that anybody with half a brain can do that, so why not save us this "installation fee" crap and let us self-install

Wow, and they charge R404 just for that?! Here in the US we get a package, with filters and a modem, plug it in and DSL is up, no such gouging fees. Talk about screwing people, and being blatant about it too!
