Can anyone here recommend a decent sensor cleaning kit and where to get it.

Thanks,
Russell.

Don't they do it automatically?

I don't have a dSLR - but I always see it advertsied :/

Outdoorphoto Shop. I use Eclipse Cleaner and swabs (the swabs are very pricey for what they are). I also have a blower and a lens pen which I sometimes use, although I use them more often for cleaning slides.

Most new models do yes. They shake the sensor (or a filter in front of the sensor) to remove dust. Some of the dust then gets trapped by an adhesive part in the cavity. It is better than not having it, but it is no silver bullet.

Pretty cool video by Canon explaining it:

I have 2 or 3 dust spots on my sensor but am hesitant to clean it myself... would rather leave that to the professionals who do it every day than risk damaging my sensor...

Do you clean your lenses? There are coatings on the glass on your lenses that you can damage, and decent lenses usually cost way more than your camera.

The sensor has a piece of glass in front of it - all you're cleaning is that piece of glass. Follow the instructions and you'll be ok ;)

Would the Rizzla paper damage those coatings?

I removed some dust spots with a rocket blower on my D40... took a few attempts, but worked well :)

Picked up a Sensor Klear II (made by Lens Pen) from the local camera shop today and have already cleaned four cameras. :) Nice addition to any camera bag.

Bwana - off topic, what kit do you actually have?

I know a few dSLRs - but which? And what lenses? Now that I know the models, I'm kinda interested!

I've got a fair amount of gear. My big problem is not getting rid of any of it as I go along. I've still got my first dslr, the 400D I got back at the end of 2006. :o

I'll take a photo of the rest and put it up later, it will be easier that way :D

Speaking of gear....

The usual suspects

Taken with a second 400D with the standard kit lens on a light weight National Geographic tripod.

Wow - very nice equipment, bwana! :)
Gets the job done, almost. :) I just need one more lens, the f/2.8 version of the 70-200mm, and I'm done . . . well for now that is :D

You guys have got me an expensive hobby ... I think I'd be better off leaving this subsection and just playing on my Xbox ;)
